Job Description

Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Red Hat's Image Builder team to work on improving the Image Builder service. This service is used during the development of RHEL and Fedora but is also used by Red Hat’s customers or anyone with a developer license via console.redhat.com. Knowledge and a lot of curiosity about how Linux distributions are put together and delivered to Red Hat’s customers and open source communities are required. On the Image Builder team, you will work in a friendly and collaborative atmosphere, figuring out how things work and solving hard problems. Most members of the team work remotely, across multiple time zones. However, applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.

What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Design and develop features for Image Builder that solve user and customer problems

  • Dig into the nitty-gritty details of Linux to debug complex issues

  • Communicate with peer engineers within your team and Red Hat, as well as in relevant Open Source communities

  • Collaborate with Support, Documentation and partnering teams like Image Mode, Automotive, or Virtualization

  • Explore and experiment with emerging AI technologies relevant to software development, proactively identifying opportunities to incorporate new AI capabilities into existing workflows and tooling.

What You Bring (Required Skills)

  • 4+ years of experience developing software professionally

  • Knowledge of and curiosity about how Linux operating systems are assembled and used in various environments

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Ability to work effectively in a remote team

  • Experience with Linux system programming is a strong plus

The salary range for this position is $118,600.00 - $195,680.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
