Job Description
Sr. Supply Chain Specialist (Procurement), Supply Chain, Alberta
This Edmonton‑based Supply Chain role supports the Gilead Alberta site through the effective execution of purchasing initiatives that ensure timely availability of materials and services for site manufacturing and operations. The Senior Supply Chain Specialist plays a key role in translating procurement strategy into operational outcomes while maintaining compliance, service continuity, and supplier performance expectations.
As a contributing member of a two‑person procurement team, this role supports a broad range of end‑to‑end procurement activities. Responsibilities include preparing RFx sourcing initiatives, creating and managing Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders within the Gilead Alberta ERP systems, expediting orders as required, and monitoring supplier performance against established service and delivery expectations.
The role also provides day‑to‑day support troubleshooting ERP‑related issues, addressing supplier invoicing and payment discrepancies (including resolving on‑hold payments), onboarding new suppliers, and coordinating the collection of required supplier documentation and market information as needed.
Strong communication and collaboration are critical to this position. The Senior Supply Chain Specialist works closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure material and service requirements are executed accurately.
The successful candidate will bring prior experience in a procurement supply chain environment, along with working knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP/Ariba or Oracle. A Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) certification is considered an asset.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
Administrative:
Supports and influences the end‑to‑end Purchase‑to‑Pay (P2P) process for the site, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, compliance, and control.
Contributes to the development, continuous improvement, and governance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, CAPAs, and deviation investigations relevant to the procurement and materials management function.
Provides analytical reporting and insights on material inflow, supply performance, and demand trends to support planning, risk mitigation, and business decision‑making.
Technical:
Collaborates with stakeholders for the purchasing and sourcing of chemicals, raw materials, packaging materials, services, equipment, and tools, balancing business priorities, and delivery timelines.
Evaluates supplier capabilities, cost structures, and risk profiles to inform sourcing strategies and ensure optimal outcomes across cost, quality, reliability, and service.
Coordinates the execution of supplier contracts, including the issuance and management of work orders, ensuring alignment with contractual terms and operational needs.
Participates in the review of proposals, negotiations, and supplier selection decisions.
Proactively monitors order fulfillment, delivery performance, and issue resolution, ensuring timely receipt of materials and services while maintaining accurate records and approvals.
Builds strong, effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and peers to understand material requirements, anticipate risks, and align procurement strategies with business needs.
Collaborates with cross‑functional teams to resolve complex supply and material flow challenges, balancing competing priorities and driving sustainable solutions.
Complies with all safety-related procedures and practices.
Basic Requirements:
Degree and 5+ years of relevant experience
2 year diploma and 7+ years of experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent computer skill including Microsoft Office Suite and purchasing experience.
