S&P Global Energy

The Role: Lead DevOps Engineer

The Team

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled engineering leader to join S&P Global Energy. Our team delivers sector-specific, data-rich solutions that are tightly aligned to evolving business needs.

The Impact

You will help design and build modern cloud platforms, shared data assets, and reusable capabilities leveraged across the organization. The team owns the DevOps function for a large-scale, cloud-based data processing environment—establishing best practices for cloud infrastructure, data processing, and operational excellence. You will also advise partner teams on modernization initiatives and scalable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities (Leadership + Delivery)

  • Provide technical leadership in the execution and delivery of technology solutions that support critical business applications.
  • Lead and coordinate engineering activities across the development lifecycle, ensuring consistent use of standard design patterns, reusable services, and integration approaches.
  • Champion strong engineering practices to ensure solutions are designed, built, and implemented using effective processes and modern technologies.
  • Drive timely delivery without compromising system quality, reliability, security, or performance.

Core Responsibilities (Platform, Automation, Operations)

  • Architect, build, implement, and support new platforms using cloud-native capabilities.
  • Design, build, test, and document new features for a large-scale cloud-based data processing platform.
  • Design and implement scalable, automated infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code principles and automation-first practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify improvement opportunities and deliver enhancements that integrate cleanly with existing platforms.
  • Improve platform performance, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency, supporting high-volume data workflows.
  • Participate in operational support (including on-call), ensuring high availability and timely incident resolution, including post-incident root cause analysis.
  • Partner with data engineering and application teams to design and deploy automated build, deployment, and release pipelines for platform changes and feature delivery.
  • Design and implement operational capabilities such as monitoring, alerting, backup, and disaster recovery.

What We’re Looking For

Basic (Required) Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 8+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Strong experience with cloud-based services for data processing, storage, orchestration, and automation.
  • Demonstrated experience building cloud-native solutions across core capabilities such as object storage, metadata/catalog services, serverless compute, managed orchestration, managed NoSQL/datastores, and centralized logging/metrics.
  • Hands-on experience applying infrastructure-as-code and automation methodologies in production environments.
  • Proven ability to design pragmatic, creative solutions using cloud-native managed services.
  • Experience with solution architecture: evaluating options, designing, building, validating, and promoting solutions into production.
  • Proficiency in Python or a similar language for automation, tooling, and platform development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Additional (Preferred) Qualifications

  • Experience designing and operating serverless architectures in a cloud environment.
  • Experience integrating cloud solutions with enterprise security scanning, observability, and monitoring capabilities.
  • Experience working with automotive data or other complex, domain-specific datasets.
  • Experience with cloud security practices, including monitoring, compliance, and vulnerability management.
  • Experience with cost optimization, usage monitoring, and continuous remediation.
  • Proven experience building and managing automated deployment and release processes.
  • Experience using generative AI tools to improve productivity (e.g., researching technologies, accelerating design exploration, or assisting with logic development).
