Join us in bringing joy to customer experience. Five9 is a leading provider of cloud contact center software, bringing the power of cloud innovation to customers worldwide.
Living our values everyday results in our team-first culture and enables us to innovate, grow, and thrive while enjoying the journey together. We celebrate diversity and foster an inclusive environment, empowering our employees to be their authentic selves.
As Senior Staff DevOps Engineer- India in our Product Engineering organization, you will play a pivotal strategic leadership role, shaping and scaling our next-generation, multi-cloud platforms. We are looking for a deeply technical, hands-on leader who thrives in complex distributed systems, mentors senior engineers, and influences platform direction across global teams. You will lead by example—balancing long-term vision with short-term delivery—and partner with architects, SREs, and product leadership to build resilient, high-performance cloud infrastructure that enables our engineering teams to deliver software at scale. This is a high-impact role requiring strong ownership and systems thinking. You will be required to maintain working hours that overlap with U.S. Pacific time zones to support collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical leader for the Cloud Platform Engineering team in India, guiding design, implementation, and operational excellence.
- Architect, design, and drive execution of large-scale, distributed cloud platforms and core infrastructure services.
- Set and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and architectural patterns across the India team.
- Lead development of platform services, automation frameworks, and internal tooling to improve availability, scalability, security, latency, and efficiency.
- Mentor and coach engineers in India through code reviews, design reviews, and hands-on collaboration.
- Partner closely with global architects, SREs, product managers, and leadership to ensure alignment between platform vision and execution.
- Act as a key technical decision-maker, balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term platform sustainability.
- Drive production excellence, including observability, incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term remediation.
- Lead initiatives to improve reliability metrics such as availability, MTTD, MTTR, and capacity planning.
- Own complex, cross-team technical problems and guide them to resolution.
- Clearly document and communicate technical designs, trade-offs, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements:
- 13+ years of progressive experience in cloud platform engineering, software engineering, or DevOps, with a proven track record in a staff, principal, or similar technical leadership capacity.
- Deep architectural expertise in designing, building, and operating business-critical services at scale on public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or OpenStack).
- Demonstrated ownership of a comprehensive software delivery ecosystem, including architecting and governing CI systems (e.g., GitLab CI), source code management (GitLab), and build/runner infrastructure.
- Expertise in designing and managing "as-a-service" platforms, such as internal artifact/package management services (e.g., Artifactory/Nexus) and immutable OS image factories.
- Proven experience architecting and managing critical shared infrastructure with a security-first mindset, including Privileged Access Management (PAM), secrets management, and identity lifecycle solutions.
- Expert-level skills in infrastructure as code (Terraform), configuration management (Ansible), and proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, Bash).
- Deep knowledge of containerization and orchestration at scale, including Kubernetes, Helm, and managed platforms (GKE/EKS/AKS).
- Hands-on experience supporting Windows-based build and deployment platforms as a primary production use case.
- Hands-on expertise in SRE principles and practices, including incident management, observability, defining SLOs, and driving reliability.
