Job Description:

Position Overview

The Talent Acquisition Manager will lead and execute recruitment strategy while managing and developing a high-performing TA team. This role combines hands-on recruitment leadership, people management, and strategic partnership with business leaders to support growth in a regulated Medical Device environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in the Japan medical device talent market, experience leading recruiters, and the ability to operate effectively within a matrixed global organization.

Key Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute Japan-specific talent acquisition strategies aligned with business growth plans and global HR priorities

  • Act as a strategic advisor to Japan leadership on workforce planning, hiring risks, and talent market intelligence

  • Translate business needs into scalable recruitment plans for both short- and long-term hiring demand

People Management & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Talent Acquisition Specialists and/or Recruiters in Japan

  • Set clear performance objectives, KPIs, and development plans aligned with functional and business goals

  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development discussions

  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative team culture

  • Provide hands-on training on sourcing strategies, interview quality, stakeholder management, and compliance hiring

  • Manage recruiter workload, prioritization, and resource allocation effectively

  • Support succession planning and capability building within the TA organization

End-to-End Recruitment Execution

  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment for roles across Sales, Marketing, Clinical, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Corporate functions

  • Partner with hiring managers to define role requirements, competencies, and hiring timelines

  • Ensure consistent, structured, and fair interview and selection processes

  • Provide escalation support and guidance for complex or senior-level hires

Sourcing Strategy & Employer Branding

  • Guide the TA team on effective sourcing strategies including direct sourcing, referrals, and agency partnerships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with specialist recruitment agencies

  • Strengthen employer branding in the Japan medical device market through LinkedIn, industry events, and professional networks

  • Promote consistent and high-quality candidate experience

Stakeholder & Global Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Japan leadership, HR Business Partners, and global TA teams

  • Align Japan hiring practices with regional and global standards

  • Lead or contribute to APAC/global TA projects, system implementations, and process improvements

Analytics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Set and monitor recruitment KPIs such as time-to-hire, quality of hire, recruiter productivity, and pipeline health

  • Provide regular hiring reports and insights to leadership

  • Identify opportunities to improve recruitment processes, tools, and team effectiveness

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure all recruitment activities comply with Japan labor laws and internal corporate policies

  • Maintain strong governance around data privacy, documentation, and ethical hiring standards

  • Support internal and external audits related to hiring practices

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field

  • 7+ years of talent acquisition experience, including 3+ years in Medical Device, Life Sciences, or Healthcare

  • Proven experience managing and developing recruiters or TA teams in Japan

  • Experience working within a multinational, matrixed organization

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong people leadership and coaching capability

  • In-depth understanding of Japan talent market dynamics

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills

  • Data-driven decision-making and recruitment analytics experience

Language Requirements

  • Native-level Japanese

  • Business-level English
