Position Purpose:

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors, the Regional Director, Regulatory & Patient Safety/Risk Management Services is accountable for providing leadership, administrative direction, oversight and implementation support for regulatory compliance, patient safety, and risk reduction: 

  • Facilitates transition from a retrospective, reactive model for patient safety/risk management and regulatory compliance to a prospective, proactive approach consistent with the concepts expected of a high reliability organization. 

  • Designs, directs and facilitates implementation of effective systems for regulatory compliance and continuous survey readiness. 

  • Aligns patient safety and risk management priorities with Mount Carmel's quality and performance improvement strategic plan and with regulatory compliance initiatives. 

  • Provides education for colleagues, physicians, boards, leadership and other stakeholders on regulatory/compliance requirements and patient safety needs, initiatives and activities. 

  

What You Will Do: 

  • Responsible for planning and implementing strategies for evaluation of regulatory compliance and patient safety risks in a uniform and consistent manner across Mount Carmel Health System, including provision of consultation for such strategies to affiliated joint ventures. 

  • Provides direction in collaboration with key stakeholders for the development, review and revision of organizational Patient Safety/Risk Management Plan based upon internal needs, external requirements, and current healthcare industry standards. 

  • Oversees the development or revision of policies, procedures and processes to facilitate compliance to regulatory requirements and to mitigate actual or potential patient safety concerns/risks. 

  • Implements systems for tracking regulatory issues, patient safety concerns/risks, incidents and reports significant findings to key stakeholders. 

  • Reviews literature and professional organizations for new or revised best practices related to patient safety and health care risk management and makes recommendations to leadership. 

  

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Education: Baccalaureate Degree in Health Care field required. Masters in Nursing, Allied Health or Business preferred. 

  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years recent hospital practice. Clinical and management experience required. Broad based clinical or management leadership experience with knowledge of complex systems and systems change with demonstrated success in tactical and analytical thinking. 

  • Current knowledge of clinical and regulatory standards related to hospital/patient safety.
