Pay Range: $22.90-$28.62/hr.

Workdays & Hours: 24/7 Operation - weekend work may be required. This position is a first responder in severe weather conditions/emergencies, which will be subject to work after hours, emergency call back hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and will participate in an on-call rotation schedule. Shift Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

A Skilled Trades Technician II - Fabrication Welder position is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department / Field Operations Division for Water. The Field Operations Division is a 24/7 operation and is the largest division of the Water Department, and an integral function of the maintenance of the City of Fort Worth’s infrastructure. This position will report to a Sr. Skilled Trade Tech and is essential to the daily operations of the division, playing an integral role in the department's success. The ideal candidate/s will be responsible for various construction, maintenance, and repair activities related to the assigned section. Ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures. Performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility. The operation, repair, and maintenance of all water and wastewater piping systems for the city and surrounding customers. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED certification supplemented by specialized training in the assigned trade
  • Two (2) years of related metal fabrication experience
  • Must pass Physical and Drug Screen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • TIG, MIG, STICK, and FLUX welding certifications or other related
  • Possession of a Commercial Driver’s - Class A CDL license
  • Knowledge of work order management software
  • Previous experience working with a large water utility
  • TCEQ Class “D” or Collection I license

The Fabrication Welder job responsibilities include:

  • Ability to fabricate, modify, and repair various components of all water and wastewater construction equipment
  • Be able to identify resources and allocate resources accordingly
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality, responsiveness, efficiency, and effectiveness of assigned operation methods and procedures
  • Perform the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit
  • Assist in responding to and resolving public inquiries and complaints
  • Confer with customers regarding problems and assist as needed
  • Ensure preventative maintenance on equipment is completed as required
  • Perform other duties as required

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
