The Internal Audit Lead develops, plans and evaluates internal audit programs for the organization's accounting and statistical records and the activities of multiple departments to ensure compliance with the organization's policies, procedures and standards. The Internal Audit Lead works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.This is a hybrid position and will require you to work in Humana's office in Louisville, KY approximately 2-3 days per week.
The Lead, Internal Audit reports directly to the Vice President, Internal Audit. The Lead is responsible for advancing the Internal Audit function by developing and refining audit methodologies, leading audit engagements across various business areas, and supporting organizational goals through risk-based auditing and process improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, implement, and continuously enhance internal audit methodologies, tools, and documentation, ensuring alignment with IIA Global Audit Standards and industry best practices, including integration of artificial intelligence and automation with in Optro.
- Drive standardization and process improvements across the audit lifecycle, including benchmarking against leading practices and peer organizations.
- Lead and coordinate audit engagements, including planning, execution, reporting, follow-up, and evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
- Monitor audit plan execution, timeliness, resource utilization, and establish KPIs to track audit performance and productivity.
- Prepare and present comprehensive audit reports and Audit Committee reporting, communicating findings, issues, trends, and main themes to management and stakeholders at the VP and SVP level.
- Lead internal quality assessments, regulatory examination responses, and contract language deviation reviews.
- Evaluate emerging tools to improve audit efficiency and insights.
- Drive transparency, communication, and integration of audit processes across the function and with cross-functional teams.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to audit team members, encouraging professional development, talent strategy, and knowledge sharing.
- Support the Internal Audit leadership team in strategic planning, transformation projects, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and latest risks.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
- 8 or more years of audit or consulting experience
- Professional certifications (CPA, CIA, CISA, CISSP, PMP, CFE)
- Successful track record in facilitating and consulting across teams and managing projects
- Demonstrated experience in internal audit, methodology development, and leading audit teams.
- Strong knowledge of internal control frameworks and risk management principles.
- Experience working with Optro (AuditBoard) including administration activities
- Comprehensive knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Aptitude for establishing working relationships with associates within the department and the business
- Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading audit operations, PMO or transformation projects
- Advanced degree preferred
- Experience with use of artificial intelligence in Internal Audit preferred.

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
