Job Description
Nuveen is seeking an experienced Director to lead Data Operations & Stewardship Center of Excellence (CoE) accountable for implementing and operationalizing Nuveen’s data stewardship model across Nuveen Global Asset Management Operations, Client Teams, and Investment Teams. Reporting to the Head of Nuveen Global Investment Operations, India, with a functional reporting line to the Nuveen Data Office, this role translates enterprise data governance policy and standards into scalable operating processes, clear decision rights, and measurable outcomes. This Director will serve as a critical role working with business and technology functions, leveraging Collibra as the central data governance platform, and will work closely with the Nuveen Data Office & engineering teams to ensure consistent, high-quality data stewardship practices that support Nuveen's business objectives and regulatory compliance requirements.
This leader will partner closely with Data Governance and Data Engineering to embed stewardship into day-to-day execution through defined roles (Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Custodians), workflow-driven processes, and control evidence—improving data quality, metadata completeness, lineage coverage, and issue remediation across critical data domains (e.g., security master, pricing, reference, client, and portfolio data).
Job Responsibilities:
Data Operations & Steward Leadership
· Stand up and lead a centralized Data Operations & Stewardship CoE in India, including team structure, hiring/skill development, capacity management, and standard operating procedures for stewardship execution.
· Establish a clear CoE engagement model and service catalog for Investment, Operations, and Client stakeholders (intake, prioritization, execution, and reporting). Implement and operationalize stewardship role in partnership with Nuveen Data Office to implement Data Governance frameworks, policies, and control structures across Investment, Client, and Operations domains.
· Ensure alignment with enterprise Data 360 strategy and Nuveen Data Office priorities.
Data Stewardship Oversight
· Lead a team of data stewards responsible for business metadata, critical data elements, lineage documentation, data quality rules, and business glossaries.
· Drive issue identification, triage, and remediation across operational and investment data flows.
· Maintain consistent definitions, taxonomies, and stewardship models in Collibra.
Collibra and Metadata Management
· Serve as the functional owner of Collibra, managing workflows, governance models, and integrations.
· Partner with Data Engineering and Technology teams to enhance lineage, metadata ingestion, and automation capabilities.
· Oversee data quality dashboards, scorecards, and exception management tools.
Cross-Functional Stakeholder Engagement
· Partner with Investment Team, Product, Operations, Client Management, Risk, and Compliance teams to understand data requirements and business challenges.
· Collaborate with the Chief Data Office and engineering teams to align governance initiatives with platform and pipeline roadmaps.
· Represent the Data Stewardship function in forums, councils, and architecture discussions.
· Engage with Investment, Technology, and Client Management stakeholders across Institutional and SMA business lines to navigate varying product and system flows, applying tailored governance and stewardship approaches that reflect the distinct applications, data attributes, and stakeholder needs of each business line.
· Partner with the Data Management and Controls (DMAC) team to support product understanding, CDE monitoring, and data quality oversight across systems such as Eagle and CRD. Leverage Collibra for root cause analysis on data breaks and coordinate on new or evolving product releases to ensure uninterrupted trade processing and sustained data integrity.
Risk and Control Management
· Strengthen controls around data quality, privacy, market data usage, and client data stewardship.
· Ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance across global data touchpoints.
· Lead root-cause analysis and long-term remediation for recurring data issues.
Additional Details:
Required Skills:
· 16+ years of experience in Asset Management or related Investment Banking experience.
· 8+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Stewardship, or Enterprise Data Management.
· Strong exposure to Buy-Side Asset Management, Investment Operations, security master data, pricing, reference data, and product data flows.
· Proven experience leading data teams in a global matrix environment.
· Must have expertise in Collibra
· Strong understanding of data quality, lineage, metadata management, and governance controls.
· Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Skills:
· Experience with Snowflake or cloud-based data platforms.
· Familiarity with data lineage automation tools and governance workflow engines.
· Knowledge of Python or SQL for data validation and root-cause analysis (beneficial but not required).
· Understanding of ESG data and analytics frameworks.
