Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Business Support, the Business Support Manager is a key member of the Finance organization, providing financial support to Marketing, Strategy, Human Resources, Merchandising, Real Estate, and Legal.The Business Support team leads critical financial processes, including month-end journal entries and supporting workpapers, annual budget development, and accurate monthly forecasting. In doing so, the team is also responsible for preparing detailed variance analyses and presenting actionable insights to senior leadership across Finance and operational functions. In addition, the team provides ad-hoc financial modeling and business case support as needed.
The Business Support Manager is a proactive, analytical and detail-oriented team leader who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment. This role is responsible for identifying, recommending, and influencing process improvements that enhance budget and forecast accuracy, team productivity and drive year-over-year profitability improvement.
Success in this role requires the ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships with both operational and finance stakeholders. The ideal candidate demonstrates flexibility, sound judgment, and the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality. They must effectively prioritize, plan, and streamline execution while driving results through clear, organized, and strategic communication.
This role also includes direct leadership and professional development of a team of four, including three analysts and one coordinator.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and skilled at translating complex financial data into clear, concise insights that inform decision-making and drive business performance. High degree of familiarity with general financial planning and analysis processes and tools is a must.
A Day in the Life
1. Accounting functions - Oversee and review the month-end close process, including accounting journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations and workpapers, as well as detailed variance analyses and explanations.
2. Financial Planning and Analysis functions – Oversee the development of the annual budget for various departments, and development of accurate monthly forecasts.
3. Leadership and Development – Lead a team of three Financial Analysts and one coordinators overseeing workload management, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of deliverables, and maintaining accountability for performance. This role is also responsible for supporting the team’s professional growth and development in alignment with Burlington’s leadership framework.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Influence– Present annual budgets, monthly forecast updates, areas of operational and financial improvement to various members of senior leadership within Finance and the operational departments. This person must be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as having the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.
5. Performance Improvement Contribution (PIC) - Identify, execute, and/or support PIC initiatives. Respond to the needs of the Company by identifying and realizing additional expense/capital saving opportunities.
6. Review and Improve Processes – Review existing policies and procedures to identify areas for improvement. Develop enhanced business reporting and financial analytical tools to improve accuracy and operational efficiencies.
You'll Come With
Education: BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is required; MBA a plus
Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Accounting and/or Finance; Supervisory experience is necessary.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong financial analytical skills; advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint required
- High comfort level working in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to communicate complex findings clearly and succinctly, both verbally and written, and lead presentations to senior-level executives.
- High degree of reliability including accountability for daily, weekly, and long-term projects.
