Job Description

The role

As part of our General Counsel, Commercial & Civil group, the Installation Engineer will The Installation Engineer is responsible for all aspects of hardware installation planning, design and integration of ATM system platform hardware at Saab’s and customer’s premises, including recording the configuration of installed hardware.

The position involves close liaison with Saab technical governance stakeholders and with customer representatives to ensure all aspects of hardware installation and integration address essential requirements, allowing for site-specific and operational constraints.

Further, the successful candidate will:

Core

The role will involve site visits and site surveys for identification of preferred locations for installation of Saab ATM system hardware, capture and subsequent management of hardware installation and integration issues, and development of the detailed plans for hardware installation design, assembly and set to work.

  • Develop Site Visit Reports, Installation Management Plans and Site Installation Packs consisting of rack layouts (2D drawings), parts lists, cable and patching schedules.
  • Lead engineer for all installation-related aspects of console design, including participation in console Factory Acceptance Test and console hardware site acceptance testing. Work with the supervising Registered Engineer in formalising decisions relating to the console’s design for installation.
  • Develop and update the project’s hardware design, ensuring all hardware requirements are met. Includes working with the I-ATS Program Lead System Engineer to select hardware, and developing associated power, heat load and equipment weight calculations for review by the supervising Registered Engineer.
  • Develop the Bill of Materials and liaise with Saab’s Supply Chain and Procurement functions to secure hardware pricing, lead times and evidence of compliance.
  • Plan assembly and installation activities for all hardware, including in-rack and structured cabling, and quality check build and installation activities to ensure alignment with Site Installation Packs.
  • Configuration management of installed hardware via Physical Configuration Audit and record the as-built equipment state in Saab’s configuration management database, as detailed in the project Configuration Management Plan.

Supporting

  • Contribute to development of Engineering Change Proposals through determination of activities and estimation of effort to support equipment selection, installation design and planning activities.
  • Contribute to the development/review of hardware test acceptance procedures.
  • Contribute to the development/review of hardware maintenance procedures.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office will be considered for this role.

About you

Your education, skills and experience will include:

  • Desirable: Registered Professional Engineer (Electrical) for Victoria.
  • Experience working within a project delivery environment and Systems Engineering processes.
  • Experience of installation design planning in operational environments, particularly for Safety-Critical environments such as Air Traffic Management.
  • Use of CAD drawing tools (2D).
  • Knowledge of ATM system products and associated hardware requirements and interfaces.
  • Knowledge of environmental and regulatory standards as they apply to hardware selection, including EMC and regulatory compliance marking.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards as they apply to installation design for COTS hardware, including:
  • AS/NZS 3000:2018 (Electrical).
  • AS/CA S009:2020 (Telecommunications).

As a defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance preferably to baseline level or have the ability to gain one.
