EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Temporary
CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: This position would be for a total of 390 hours, with a minimum of 20 hours to a maximum of 30 hours in every week. Starting time to be determined.
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under direction, performs routine typing and general clerical work following established procedures or specific instruction. May perform the following tasks depending upon the assigned department: types memos, letters, forms, envelopes, cards, receipts, permits, and other correspondence. Files records and reports. Posts information, sorts, and distributes mail. Answers the telephone and performs various clerical support duties. Operates standard office equipment such as typewriters, personal computers, word processors, facsimile machines, copiers, calculators, and adding machines. Conducts tree inventories, supports our sustainability efforts, grant writing and or tracking, assists in our public areas, watershed areas, and programming to offset invasive species and plants. Assists with designing and improving landscapes. Assists with aspects of our master planning and sustainability programs. Performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Types a variety of materials, including memos, letters, forms, envelopes, cards, receipts, permits and other correspondence according to established procedures or specific instructions.
Enters information on records and forms.
Receives incoming telephone calls. Answers questions appropriate to skill level.
Relays messages to appropriate individuals or departments.
Assists others and when necessary, directs them to the appropriate office or staff member.
Distributes forms and/or brochures.
Files, searches for, and retrieves records and documents.
Bends, stoops, and reaches in order to file, search for and retrieve records and documents.
Lifts, moves, and carries equipment and supplies that weigh up to 25 pounds.
Makes duplicate copies of reports and/or information which is then routed to proper persons, departments and/or filed.
Conducts tree inventories in smaller communities such as Utica, Romeo, Mount Clemens, and New Baltimore, as well as at past planting sites.
Collaborates with public works departments, conservation organizations like the Clinton River Watershed Council (CRWC), or Cooperative Invasive Species Management Areas (CISMA) to support their initiatives related to park maintenance, invasive species management, or habitat restoration.
Assists in the development of landscape designs for park improvement projects, including planting plans, hardscape layouts, and erosion control measures.
Providing support in our efforts in reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices in park management. Assist with Material Management Plan development.
Receives, screens, sorts, and/or counts materials such as applications, permits and forms.
Separates, sorts, and stuffs envelopes for mailing or distribution.
Operates standard office equipment such as typewriters, personal computers, word processors, facsimile machines, copiers, calculators, and adding machines.
Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Landscape Architecture, or a related field
Preferred Education and Experience
Previous clerical work experience
