Job Summary
Caterpillar’s Autonomy & Autonomation Site Solutions organization is seeking a Manager, Engineering Technology to provide deep technical leadership across the MineStar Office ecosystem. This role is accountable for setting architectural direction, driving technical strategy, and ensuring successful delivery of scalable, high‑quality solutions that support mining operations worldwide.
This is a hands‑on technical leadership role, combining software architecture expertise, mining domain knowledge, and people leadership. As a member of the Site Solutions leadership team, the Manager, Engineering Technology plays a critical role in shaping solution and system architecture, ensuring alignment with business strategy, customer needs, and long‑term platform evolution.
What You Will Do
Solution & System Architecture Leadership
- Define, maintain, and evolve the architectural vision and technical roadmaps for the MineStar Office ecosystem.
- Lead the design of scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions addressing complex mining operational challenges.
- Ensure architectural consistency and integration across systems, services, and platforms within the MineStar ecosystem.
- Provide technical governance and direction across multiple engineering teams and initiatives.
Technical Strategy & Delivery
- Drive technical strategy, innovation, and continuous improvement in software development practices and architecture.
- Partner with engineering and product leaders to ensure high‑quality delivery aligned with timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities that enhance platform capability, performance, and sustainability.
- Balance short‑term delivery commitments with long‑term architectural integrity.
Mining Domain Leadership
- Apply deep understanding of mining operations, workflows, and customer use cases to guide solution design.
- Translate operational challenges and customer needs into clear technical direction and architectural decisions.
- Partner with customers, domain experts, and internal stakeholders to ensure solutions deliver measurable operational value.
Technical People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and architects, fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
- Provide coaching and career development support aligned with organizational objectives and individual growth.
- Establish clear expectations for technical quality, collaboration, and innovation.
- Build strong cross‑functional relationships and encourage knowledge sharing across teams.
Stakeholder Partnership & Influence
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to product management, business leaders, and customers.
- Influence technical decisions across organizational boundaries through expertise and credibility.
- Represent the MineStar Office ecosystem in internal forums, reviews, and customer engagements.
Governance, Quality & Compliance
- Establish and enforce architectural standards, patterns, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and organizational policies.
- Promote disciplined engineering practices that drive reliability, performance, and maintainability.
Education Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, or a related field.
What Skills You Will Have
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Proven experience leading solution and system architecture for complex, distributed software ecosystems.
- Strong expertise in modern software architectures (e.g., cloud platforms, microservices, APIs, data integration).
Software Engineering Excellence
- Proficiency with modern development languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, C#, Python).
- Experience with system integration, data management, and secure application design.
- Familiarity with Agile development and DevOps practices.
Mining & Industrial Domain Expertise
- Strong understanding of mining operations, workflows, and operational technology environments.
- Experience delivering software solutions in mining or comparable industrial domains.
Leadership & Influence
- Demonstrated ability to lead and grow technical teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to influence outcomes across a matrixed organization through expertise and collaboration.
Strategic Thinking & Problem Solving
- Ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop pragmatic, scalable solutions.
- Comfortable operating at both strategic and execution levels.
Top Candidates Will Also Have
- Experience with the MineStar Office ecosystem or similar mining technology platforms.
- Experience leading architecture for enterprise‑scale or mission‑critical systems.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Additional Information
- Work Environment: This role operates in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment and requires on‑site attendance five days per week to support cross‑functional engagement and delivery.
- Travel: Up to 25% domestic and international travel may be required to support customers, stakeholders, and project activities.
