Job Description
Position Overview
Our vision is to become the most trusted and innovative marketplace that connects Customers, Municipalities, and Selling Partners to enhance regional vitality across Japan, making local contributions more accessible.
Amazon Furusato seeks a Head of Product to lead our pioneering Regional Revitalization initiative. As Japan's innovative Hometown-Tax (Furusato-Nozei) marketplace, we are transforming how municipalities and local sellers connect with customers nationwide, revitalizing local economies through our technologies, logistics, and the trusted Amazon marketplace.
This leadership role offers a rare opportunity to lead and scale a product organization with substantial engineering resources both in Japan and globally—giving you the autonomy and support to quickly translate customer needs into innovative solutions, moving from problem identification to product launch with unprecedented speed and flexibility. Working with tech teams across Amazon WW, you will design and deliver breakthrough innovations unique to Japan.
The ideal candidate will bring crisp decision-making capabilities, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of building high-performing product teams. You will define product strategy, drive execution across complex stakeholder landscapes, and develop the next generation of product leaders while delivering transformative customer experiences.
Business Context
In December 2024, Amazon Furusato launched as Amazon's first dedicated Regional Revitalization marketplace, integrating with Japan's government-sponsored $8B Hometown-Tax (Furusato Nozei) market. This enables Amazon Customers to allocate a portion of their taxes to municipalities where they don't reside. Municipalities compete for individual's tax revenue by offering locally-produced products, mostly through dedicated online marketplaces, thereby creating a shopping experience that enables individuals to get "free" products for their taxes.
In December 2025, we launched Furusato Tsunagu—industry first and Amazon Worldwide's first system—enabling Sellers to convert their existing Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) offers into Furusato gifts. This breakthrough innovation significantly reduced the operational burden on municipalities by eliminating manual gift sourcing, and opened new sales channels for sellers, while strengthening our core advantages of Speed with FBA and Competitive Pricing.
Key job responsibilities
Product Leadership & Strategy:
- Define and own the multi-year product vision and strategy for Amazon Furusato, aligning with business objectives and customer needs across municipalities, sellers, donors, and the Ministry
- Make high-judgment decisions on product priorities, resource allocation, and strategic trade-offs in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Drive crisp decision-making across the organization, establishing clear prioritization frameworks and empowering teams to move fast
- Partner with senior leadership across Amazon WW to align on strategy, secure resources, and drive business impact
- Represent product strategy and progress to VP-level stakeholders with compelling written and verbal communication
Team Building & Leadership Development:
- Build, lead, and scale a world-class product management organization, hiring and developing top talent across multiple geographies
- Develop Senior Product Managers into strategic leaders through coaching, mentorship, and stretch assignments
- Establish product management excellence standards, processes, and best practices that scale with organizational growth
- Create a culture of innovation, customer obsession, and operational excellence within the product team
- Foster collaboration across product, engineering, design, business, and operations teams to deliver integrated solutions
Product Development & Execution:
- Lead end-to-end product development with both JP and global tech teams, from ideation through launch and iteration
- Drive automation initiatives that reduce manual workload for municipalities and sellers while maintaining quality standards
- Partner with engineering leadership to define technical requirements, architecture decisions, and delivery roadmaps
- Establish metrics frameworks and data-driven decision-making processes to measure product performance and customer impact
- Balance innovation velocity with regulatory compliance, quality standards, and operational scalability
Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
- Communicate complex product concepts and strategies clearly to technical, business, and executive audiences
- Build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups
- Navigate ambiguity and competing priorities to drive alignment on shared goals and success metrics
- Establish trusted relationships with senior leaders across Ja
