Job Description
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to join our team at eero. The ideal candidate will be passionate about networking, with a deep understanding of Ethernet, network security protocols, WiFi, and broader networking concepts.
This role is critical in handling escalations, particularly those that are challenging to reproduce in the field. The Software Development Engineer will spend 50% of their time managing customer issues and 50% of the time developing features, integrating software and improving tooling. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to our team and to shape a new function within our organization.
Key job responsibilities
- Enhance whole home connectivity for eero products.
- Solve connectivity issues with comprehensive solutions.
- Optimize networking subsystems in OS kernels for better WiFi performance.
- Implement protocols for efficient mesh network management.
- Debug and optimize kernel-level system performance for stability.
- Improve integration of wireless drivers, firmware, hostap, and applications.
- Lead enhancements in testing procedures.
- Collaborate with OS, mobile, and cloud teams to deliver features.

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Proven experience in WiFi software development, particularly with 802.11 protocols.
- Familiarity with 802.11, 802.3, DHCP, IPv4, IPv6, Linux bridge, and network stack internals.
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Go, Rust, C++ including object-oriented design
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a dynamic team and vendors.

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of computer science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving and complexity analysis) experience- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Proven experience in WiFi software development, particularly with 802.11 protocols.
- Familiarity with 802.11, 802.3, DHCP, IPv4, IPv6, Linux bridge, and network stack internals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Go, Rust, C++ including object-oriented design
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a dynamic team and vendors.
