CNC MACHINIST (FABLAB)
The FABLAB is one of the most unique machine shops that focus on rapid-turnaround development and test/GSE parts. FABLAB machinists have an extremely high degree of autonomy and a reputation of helping engineering teams meet tight deadlines and improve their machining knowledge. The FABLAB is a one-stop shop where machinist write, run, and validate their own programs as well as inspect parts to ensure correct fit and successful completion of SpaceX milestones.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage job queue for priority and available material
- Directly advise engineering with suggestions and modifications to part design and tolerance to achieve engineering intent within the shop capabilities
- Operate, setup, and program edit CNC and manual machines to produce development and non-flight hardware
- Perform precision set-ups of various CNC machines
- Prioritize daily work to ensure satisfying customer need dates with the highest quality of parts
- Manage cutting tools in CNC machines to ensure that machines have the needed cutting tools loaded and measured before using in programs
- Perform manual and on machine deburring
- Perform CNC machine preventative maintenance on a weekly and monthly basis
- Maintain the shop in terms of chip bins, oils, greases, 5S, and general upkeep activities
- Remain flexible in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, and support teammates however possible
- Introduce fresh ideas in machining, fixturing and tooling approach for optimal efficiency
- Inspect and rework parts to ensure they meet drawing specifications or have engineering approval for deviations
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 1+ years of experience machining or fabricating
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of experience operating CNC machinery
- Ability to program using CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam
- Proficient knowledge in high efficiency milling and turning
- Ability to read accurately, write clearly, and perform basic arithmetic calculations accurately
- Strong knowledge and experience interpreting and inspecting parts per GD&T
- Experience in shop math, tooling technology, blueprint reading, and measurement of parts
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Demonstrated creativity in solving problems within the constraints of available equipment and tools
- Strong interpersonal skills including, but not limited to, contributing to a team-oriented environment, balancing the team and individual responsibilities
