Description of Work

The Multimedia Section delivers comprehensive marketing support for the Marketing Division, offering expertise in graphic design, video production, content creation, media and advertising strategy, nutrition consulting, website management, database development and administration of the Got to Be NC membership and brand identity program.

The position of information and communications specialist plays a key role in elevating the Got to Be NC brand by supporting the planning and execution of public relations, marketing initiatives and event programming.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Develop and craft press releases, social media campaigns, blog posts and story pitches aligned with departmental goals and priorities.
• Develop and maintain targeted media contact lists and monitor media and advertising campaigns to evaluate performance and impact.
• Assist with project outreach by supporting communication plans and strategies.
• Collaborate with team members to develop professional presentations and communications.
• Create basic graphics, photos, videos and multimedia content for websites, social media and presentations.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The need for additional hours related to event production may occur several times during the year. This position’s typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. This position may qualify to telework one day per week post-probationary period at the discretion of administration.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $43,267 - $55,000

  • Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills to think creatively and adapt quickly while maintaining attention to detail in all work produced.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing social media platforms, content management systems (Meta/Drupal/WordPress) and basic graphic design tools for business-to-business and business-to-consumer audiences.

  • Technical proficiency and meticulousness in writing and editing clear and compelling copy in AP style for various media (e.g. ads, social media, blog posts, press releases, newsletters).

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, meet deadlines and collaborate across the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services with a positive attitude and team player mentality.

  • Ability to deliver information clearly and engagingly to an audience through the camera.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, English, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
