Job Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

As a Systems Modeling Electrical Engineer, you will bridge the gap between physical electrical infrastructure and virtual simulation. You will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and validating high-fidelity models of our data center power systems, using these models to optimize performance, predict failures, and validate new, innovative product designs (such as advanced generator control systems, protection relay schemes, or high-density power distribution architectures) before deployment.

If you are passionate about innovative projects at hyper-scale and meet these qualifications, this role is for you!

Key job responsibilities
• Build and maintain high-fidelity system models of data center electrical systems — including power distribution architecture (MV/LV switchgear, transformers, UPS, PDUs, busway), BESS and generation infrastructure (diesel/gas generators) continuously calibrated against commissioning data, field measurements, and operational telemetry.
• Develop and execute power system simulations to predict fault behavior, load flow, short-circuit levels, transient response, and protection coordination across a range of operating conditions.
• Automate simulation workflows and "what-if" scenario testing using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent scripting tools to accelerate design iteration and capacity planning analysis.
• Lead pre-deployment validation of new and FOAK electrical products — including generator control systems, protection relay schemes, UPS topologies, MV switchgear configurations, and high-density power distribution architectures.
• Design and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) lab testing that replicates realistic datacenter electrical loading scenarios, validating system behavior — including step load response, fault ride-through, and transfer switching — under conditions that mirror Day 1 field deployment.
• Define and own Design Verification Plans (DVPs) and test procedures for prototype electrical hardware, covering load response, protection coordination, transient stability, and control algorithm validation.
• Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on design failures by reproducing fault conditions in simulation or the physical lab, producing data-backed validation reports that support deployment sign-off decisions.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to validate integrated system performance and build simulation-based business cases for new technology adoption.
• Develop institutional validation frameworks — repeatable test methodologies, simulation standards, and acceptance criteria — that scale across datacenter electrical programs.
• Ensure deployed electrical systems are validated against realistic fault scenarios, load transients, and edge-case operating conditions to support Day 1 operational readiness.

About the team
Why AWS
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. We pioneered cloud computing and never stopped innovating — that’s why customers from the most successful startups to Global 500 companies trust our robust suite of products and services to power their businesses.
Diverse Experiences
Amazon values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.
Work/Life Balance
We value work-life harmony. Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why we strive for flexibility as part of our working culture. When we feel supported in the workplace and at home, there’s nothing we can’t achieve in the cloud.
