Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
About the role
Caterpillar products collect and process real-time data from sensors, models, and algorithms, providing actionable insights into machine use. As part of the company's digital strategy, the integrated MineStar family connects machines for real-time guidance, tracking, monitoring, and control of mining fleets. MineStar also links with other mining and business systems and supports the Mining Technology Enabled Solutions vision.
We're hiring a Senior DevOps Lead to build and scale an effective DevOps culture across the Caterpillar Technology division. You will set the technical direction and operating model for CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and engineering enablement—removing bottlenecks, standardising ways of working, and improving delivery speed, reliability, and security.
This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with strategic ownership of DevOps tooling, automation standards, and operational reliability, while mentoring engineers and partnering closely with development, QA, security, and architecture teams.
Reporting lines & key relationships
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Key relationships: Delivery team leads, Cloud/Platform Engineering, Security, Architecture, Release/Change Management, and external vendors
Scope: Enterprise CI/CD, IaC patterns, platform automation and tooling governance across multiple product teams
What you’ll do
Lead DevOps strategy and standards: define reference architectures, golden paths, reusable templates, and engineering standards for CI/CD, IaC, and runtime operations.
Own the DevOps tooling portfolio: roadmap, lifecycle management, rationalisation, and adoption guidance in partnership with Caterpillar Centres of Excellence.
Reliability and operational excellence: establish SLO/SLI practices, observability standards, incident response, problem management, and continuous improvement rhythms. Act as the escalation point for complex platform, deployment, and infrastructure issues.
Security-first delivery: embed security controls into pipelines (e.g., secret management, scanning, policy-as-code) and drive remediation and audit readiness.
Enable and coach teams: mentor engineers, uplift capability across squads, and build a culture of ownership and automation.
Stakeholder and vendor management: influence across engineering leadership, manage priorities and trade-offs, and contribute to cost optimisation and tooling/vendor decisions.
Governance and compliance: ensure alignment with Cat Technology initiatives and applicable quality/compliance frameworks.
What you'll bring
7+ years of experience in automation, DevOps, or platform engineering roles, with demonstrated ownership of complex systems.
2–4+ years in a technical lead or senior DevOps role
Proven experience supporting enterprise‑scale, production environments.
Experience working in Agile / product‑led delivery environments.

Strong hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation, Ansible).
Containerisation and orchestration expertise (Docker, Kubernetes).
Scripting and automation skills (e.g. Python, Bash, PowerShell).
Monitoring and observability tooling experience (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Splunk).
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Cloud or DevOps certifications (e.g. AWS, Azure, Kubernetes) are desirable but not mandatory.
