The Role: Senior Research Analyst

The Team:

The Commercial Discovery Solutions (CDS) team provides high‑quality client, user, and market research to global Commercial teams, enabling them to successfully navigate client negotiations, particularly during annual subscription renewals, and pursue growth opportunities. The team delivers a broad range of support, including account planning, userlist and usage reporting, recurring market reports, and ad‑hoc commercial research to help identify new logo prospects, assess whitespace opportunities, and surface commercially actionable insights. Our success hinges on team members living by the values of excellence, growth, collaboration, and high integrity.

The Impact: The role will support the global Sales teams of S&P Global Energy in regional account planning and lead generation. The ideal candidate will produce high-quality client and market research that enable commercial teams to close deals and pursue new opportunities. This position is also be expected to become a regional expert and champion, developing stakeholder relationships and providing key insights that further enhance the service delivery of Commercial Discovery Solutions. The role will leverage M&A and corporate activity insights—including mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures—to proactively identify renewal risks, uncover new logo opportunities, and surface whitespace that directly informs account strategy and commercial growth initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Account Planning and Lead Generation Support

  • Support one of the global Sales Regions (APAC, EMEA, or Americas consisting of NAM and LATAM) in account planning and lead generation

  • Produce high-quality account plans by compiling and analyzing client data and news gathered from company websites, internal databases (CapIQ, SFDC, Finance team, usage platforms) and trustworthy third-party sources to support Sales Reps

  • Generate lead generation lists, reports and analysis to support Hunter Sales Reps (New Business Managers)

  • Liaise with regional stakeholders to ensure all support requests are addressed on time and within their unique requirements

  • Develop strong knowledge of Energy products and PRG Sales methodology, ensuring all output is aligned with Commercial strategy and processes.

  • Collaborate with other analysts in the team on regional or global projects.

Userlist Reporting, Market reports and Ad-Hoc Research Support

  • Produce and maintain userlist reports, including analysis of existing users, usage trends, and penetration metrics, to support account planning, renewals, and growth discussions.

  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of weekly and monthly CDS Market Reports, including Global Market Monitor, Industry Spotlight, and Divestitures Report, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and consistency of insights.

  • Deliver ad‑hoc research, reports, and analyses in response to evolving Commercial and stakeholder needs, with a strong focus on quality and timely turnaround.

Stakeholder Management and Solution Ideation

  • Regularly connect with regional stakeholders to gather feedback.

  • Analyze stakeholder feedback across various touchpoints (regular meetings, surveys, e-mail comments) with the goal of developing enhancements to products and/or processes.

  • Collaborate with the rest of the team to craft new or enhanced CDS products that support account planning, lead generation, and other priority areas.

  • Champion the unique needs of your regional stakeholders during new product or process development but also help manage expectations in coordination with the CDS Team Lead.

  • Participate in prototyping, testing, and release of new products and/or processes to the Commercial Discovery Solutions workflow and Energy Commercial organization.

  • Participate in ad-hoc Commercial projects involving Commercial Discovery Solutions.

What We’re Looking For:

  • BS in Business, Economics, Marketing, Statistics or those linked to energy (e.g. Chemistry) or commodity markets (e.g. Agriculture). Will also consider relevant exposure to energy or commodity markets.

  • 3 years’ experience in Sales, Sales Operations, Business Development or Market Research

  • Beginner Excel skills with strong willingness to expand their technical skillset is a must. Intermediate Excel skills (Pivot tables, Macros, If statements) is a plus.

  • Experience across various Commercial technology tools and platforms (SFDC, PowerBI, Alteryx) is a plus.

  • Comfortable using AI tools (e.g., generative AI assistants) to accelerate research, summarize and synthesize information, and improve draft quality—while applying strong judgment, fact-checking outputs, and following Responsible AI and data handling expectations.
  • Working understanding of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and corporate restructuring activity, with the ability to interpret and communicate commercial implications for Sales and account strategy.
  • Dynamic collaborator with ability to work in cross-functional teams, as well as navigate competing agendas and diverse cultural backgrounds of global stakeholders and team members

  • Good communicator that can aggregate and analyze data into useful insights for stakeholders

  • Creative problem solver that can handle complex challenges and ever-changing demands and priorities in a fast-paced Commercial organization

  • Strong time management skills and able to juggle multiple projects at any given time

  • Excellent attention to detail and unwavering commitment to delivering first class-quality output
