About the team and position

As Carvana’s Income Tax Manager, you won’t just be "doing taxes“ you will be the primary architect of our income tax accounting (ASC 740) and reporting framework. This is a high-visibility role within the finance organization where you will bridge the gap between technical tax theory and real-world financial reporting.

You will also collaborate with external advisors and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between tax provision reporting and federal and state income tax compliance filings.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own the end-to-end quarterly and annual ASC 740 process, including current/deferred calculations and tax footnote disclosures.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams in supporting federal and multi-state income tax compliance.
  • Review and analyze information supporting partnership and corporate income tax filings, including Forms 1065 and 1120.
  • Research, analyze, and document technical tax positions and accounting conclusions.
  • Monitor federal and state tax law developments and assess potential financial statement impact.
  • Lead the defense for federal/state tax audits and document technical positions on emerging tax law developments. 
  • Maintain organized and well-documented tax files supporting both provision and compliance processes.
  • Support the company’s unclaimed property compliance process.

What you should know/have

  • 6+ years of income tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax departments
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, Master’s in Accounting or Tax preferred
  • CPA license or actively pursuing preferred
  • Strong experience with ASC 740 income tax provision and tax accounting under US GAAP
  • Experience with partnership and corporate income tax returns (Forms 1065 and 1120) is a plus
  • Experience working with multi-state tax environments preferred
  • Experience supporting external financial statement audits related to income taxes
  • Experience with tax research tools (RIA Checkpoint, BNA, or CCH)
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion and/or Oracle Tax Fixed Assets is a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Experience with Alteryx is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to gather, organize, and analyze complex financial data
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally with accounting, finance, and external advisors
  • Supervisory or project management experience is a plus
