Job Description

Vanguard’s Internal Audit & SOX department is seeking an Audit Engagement Manager to join our Business & Corporate Audit Services (BCAS) team, with a focus on financial crime and fraud risk. In this role, you will lead risk‑based audit and consulting engagements that assess how effectively Vanguard identifies, mitigates, and governs enterprise‑level financial crime and fraud risks, including those impacting investor protection, funds, and core business processes. You will also support audits across other lines of business and specialty areas, playing a pivotal role in executing audit strategy on key risk topics and partnering with stakeholders to strengthen control environments.

We seek individuals with strong critical thinking, project management, and relationship‑building skills who can communicate effectively, exercise sound judgment, and credibly influence senior stakeholders in complex, regulated environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead risk‑based audit and advisory engagements focused on financial crime, fraud, and related control frameworks, delivering timely, high‑quality results and practical recommendations.

  • Define and communicate engagement objectives, scope, and key fraud and financial crime risks to audit team members, department leadership, and business partners.

  • Assess the design and effectiveness of preventive and detective controls intended to mitigate fraud and financial crime risks; analyze data and processes to identify root causes, control gaps, and emerging risk themes.

  • Present audit conclusions and recommendations to management, advocating for sustainable improvements to governance, controls, and risk management practices.

  • Guide audit team members by setting clear expectations, providing constructive feedback, and supporting professional development.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with business leaders, risk management, compliance, and other assurance partners across the enterprise.

  • Contribute to special projects, emerging risk initiatives, and departmental priorities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a business related field of concentration or equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional certification or advanced degree (e.g., MBA, CPA, CIA, CFE, CAMS, CAMS‑Audit) is a plus.

  • Minimum five years of relevant experience in audit, risk management, or internal controls (e.g., operational audits, financial statement audits, internal audits); experience with, or exposure to, financial crime and/or fraud risk management and mitigation frameworks preferred.

  • CAMS certification preferred; candidates without it must obtain the CAMS certification within one year of joining the team. Other financial crime or fraud‑related certifications may also be pursued.

  • Experience evaluating enterprise or business‑level risk frameworks, governance structures, and control environments related to fraud and financial crime risk.

  • Ability to thrive in fast‑paced, ambiguous environments while leading multiple audit engagements and managing competing priorities.

  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills, including the ability to leverage data to inform risk assessments, challenge assumptions, and support insight‑driven conclusions.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with stakeholders, deliver executive‑ready messaging, and drive follow‑through on audit outcomes.
