This position is responsible for the strategic leadership, program development, finance and budgeting, program evaluation, and integration of ambulatory and acute advanced heart failure services including adult heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support. A primary responsibility is to elevate the reputation of the program to national prominence and create a destination program for heart failure and transplant services.

Essential Functions

  • Leads strategic planning and set vision for advanced heart failure services at Intermountain Medical Center and system-wide adult heart transplant program.
  • Develops departmental plans, including business, production, operational and/or organizational priorities. Controls resources and policy formation in area of responsibility. Decisions are guided by resource availability and functional objectives.
  • Builds and maintain strong relationships with community organizations and stakeholders to support advanced heart failure and transplant initiatives.
  • Plans, develops, implements and evaluates educational programs and publications designed to meet the needs of nurses, medical personnel, patients, families and the community.
  • Guides marketing and fundraising efforts to promote and grow programs and secure funding.  Supervises financial and budget management for all areas within the portfolio.
  • Ensures quality assurance, compliance oversight, and the continuous evaluation of services provided.
  • Facilitates collaboration and alignment with enterprise, region, and market clinical and operational leadership.
  • Provides leadership to managers; may also provide leadership to supervisors and/or professional staff. Has accountability for the performance and results of multiple related units.
  • Partners with various facility and system physician leaders to develop, implement and monitor strategic program growth.  Provides regular reports on key metrics and ensure local leadership understands the value provided.
  • Collaborates with Utah Cardiac Consortium on Transplant Quality Outcomes, Education, Resources and Protocols.
  • Works collaboratively with key stakeholders and various shared services to develop processes, tools, and policies to ensure appropriate utilization management and to achieve program goals.  Participates in system wide Cardiovascular related teams.
  • Works closely with Medical Directors and Physician leaders to provide support and education, facilitate standardization, and create best practices for issues related to level of care, appropriateness, documentation, and other related issues that require clinical input.
  • Assists in or coordinate obtaining and maintaining certifications or program recognitions that support best patient care to include the Ventricular Assist Device disease specific certification with The Joint Commission, as well as the United Network for Organ Sharing and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
  • Participates in or establish Advanced Heart Failure meetings to assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of systems to define, measure, and improve quality as well as optimize the delivery of clinical programs throughout the community.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Five years of Leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in process improvement.
  • Experience facilitating interdisciplinary teams and developing effective relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a healthcare or business field. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  • Two or more years of experience in heart failure, organ transplant, and/or healthcare regulatory interpretation.
  • Experience managing complex services lines within a large healthcare facility
  • Current RN License in state of practice.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$58.62 - $90.48
