Job Description

Overview:

Guidepoint is an enterprise software organization embarking on a modernization strategy from a legacy monolith to a cloud-native, Kubernetes-based environment. With multiple product and platform teams delivering reusable services across the enterprise, We are seeking a highly experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator and Architect to design, operate, and evolve PostgreSQL platforms that support cloud-native, microservices-based applications. This role is critical to ensuring our data layer is scalable, resilient, secure, and aligned with Kubernetes-driven architectures.

You will work closely with platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, and application teams to design PostgreSQL architectures that seamlessly support containerized workloads, distributed systems, and high-throughput microservices. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep PostgreSQL expertise combined with modern cloud and Kubernetes experience. This role is essential for driving modernization, reducing duplication, accelerating delivery, and building a cohesive, future-ready enterprise architecture.

This position is a hybrid position out of our Pune office.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, deploy, and operate PostgreSQL platforms optimized for microservices running on Kubernetes, ensuring scalability, isolation, and resilience
  • Architect and manage Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server and Hyperscale (Citus) for high availability, disaster recovery, and global scale
  • Define database design patterns for microservices, including database-per-service, shared services, read replicas, and event-driven data flows
  • Partner with engineering teams to ensure PostgreSQL supports CI/CD pipelines, rolling deployments, and zero-downtime releases
  • Lead performance tuning and capacity planning across compute, storage, IOPS, memory, and network layers
  • Troubleshoot advanced PostgreSQL internals including autovacuum, WAL, MVCC, locking, query planner behavior, and background processes
  • Design distributed data architectures using replication, logical decoding, sharding, and multi-region topologies
  • Lead and execute cloud migrations and modernization initiatives from on-prem or legacy platforms to cloud-native PostgreSQL
  • Implement enterprise-grade security and compliance controls including Azure AD integration, encryption at rest and in transit, Private Link, and customer-managed keys
  • Build and maintain automation and infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, Bicep, Azure DevOps, and scripting with Python, Bash, or PowerShell
  • Establish observability and monitoring using
  • Define PostgreSQL standards and best practices, mentor engineers, and act as a senior escalation point for mission-critical systems
  • Core Skills for a PostgreSQL Admin Supporting Microservices
  • Designing PostgreSQL for stateless application tiers and horizontally scaled services
  • Support PostgreSQL connectivity patterns for Kubernetes workloads such as connection pooling, PgBouncer, sidecars, and service mesh integrations
  • Managing connection pooling and concurrency at scale using PgBouncer or similar tools
  • Supporting high-transaction, bursty workloads typical of microservices architectures
  • Implementing schema evolution strategies compatible with continuous delivery
  • Understanding data ownership, consistency models, and service boundaries in distributed systems
  • Supporting event-driven architectures and change data capture patterns.

Required Technical Qualifications:

  • 8+ years in software architecture, cloud engineering, or platform engineering.
  • Strong expertise in:
  • Domain-driven design (DDD) and domain decomposition
  • Cloud-native design principles and modernization strategies
  • Event-driven design, messaging platforms (Kafka, Azure Service Bus)
  • Cloud-native patterns such as CQRS, Saga, Event Sourcing, Circuit Breakers
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages with the ability to assess current application structures and determine appropriate modernization approaches.
  • Experience with authentication and identity, including Auth0, OIDC, OAuth2, and SSO.
  • Experience in API architecture, including REST, GraphQL, and gatew
