Job Description

The Senior Marketing Programs Manager is a critical marketing role at Thermo Fisher Scientific and works with a cross-functional team that builds marketing programs in coordination with the business unit and division marketing teams.
 

As a key member of division marketing team, you will be a self-starter who can work both independently and with a team, be self-motivated and encourage the same with your cross-functional business partners, be highly adaptable and flexible to change direction when needed and clearly communicate such change. You will be decisive, handle multiple tasks, have excellent problem-solving skills, have strong business savvy, and display calmness and composure under stress or uncertainty. What will you do?

  • Partner with business units to support translation of marketing strategy to marketing execution, including the following activities:
    • Coordinate with business units on quarterly and yearly planning cycles; provide input to deliver and implement integrated marketing programs.
    • Provide “pacing to plan” reports for BU leads on how they are trending towards completing their quarterly plans.
    • Leverage quarterly/annual planning views to provide spacing and pacing recommendations. 
    • Review planned programs with Divisional Marketing peers to determine campaigns to drive most successful outcomes; provide feedback and input to business unit marketers.
    • Drive programs to ensure consistency and timely execution of all tactics linked to these programs.
    • Ensure project brief is completed accurately to allow for successful downstream deployment.
    • Identify process inefficiencies and work with relevant stakeholders to streamline activities to reduce friction and ensure more timely execution.
    • Create program/project maps inclusive of all tactics, timelines and dependencies at the outset of any initiative to ensure alignment with all stakeholders, inclusive of BU and DM partners.
    • Share marketing best practices, legal, and brand guidelines and work with business to ensure they are using such practices.
    • Provide project retrospectives to BU partners on what worked well, what didn’t work well and what to do differently inclusive of marketing analytics and process improvements
  • Partner with MPMs and cross-functional division marketing team comprised of creative services, digital marketing, events, and analytics to ensure team is delivering against business unit programs consistently and in a timely fashion.
  • Manage resources along with MPM, traffic and functional leaders to ensure a balanced workload, faster delivery and appropriate resource/skillset utilization for most effective outcomes.
  • Consistently communicate status of programs/projects to BUs and DM leadership on a weekly basis, creating 100% transparency of prioritization, project status, expectations, next steps and final delivery.
  • Anticipate potential roadblocks and proactively works to avoid them through active collaboration with peers and efficiency reviews.
  • Acts as a leader within Marketing Program Management team to drive more consistency across team members and Business Units. 
  • Manage work in a project management tool (Workfront) to ensure tactics are moving through marketing operations and provide input to Operations team to improve our efficiency to supporting key partners.
  • Deep understanding of the business unit’s business strategy and objectives and ability to translate it effectively to divisional marketing teams
  • Manage relationships through open and consistent communication to establish and maintain Business Partner's trust including setting clear expectations.
  • Identify process improvements and collaborate with operations to implement changes.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • 5+ years working in a marketing program manager role, in a fast-paced highly matrixed organization and working with a global organization
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand business strategies and prioritize activities appropriately
  • Experience with project management tool, preferably Workfront
  • Experience with distinct program management methodologies including Agile
  • Ability to lead multiple projects and shifting priorities within a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed environment and effectively navigating systems/processes
  • Ability to interpret business needs and identify key stakeholders to provide direction as needed
  • Experience in diplomatic resolutions to meet both external and internal demands
  • Problem-solver who is able to take challenges and convert them into solutions
  • Strong understanding/experience in digital marketing best practices, execution & measurement.
