Job Description

Role Summary/Purpose: 

Provide support to Synchrony’s litigation team including all aspects of case handling in connection with lawsuits, regulatory inquiries, arbitration matters, threatened litigation, certain escalated customer complaints, and complex subpoenas.  Duties include factual research, case status tracking, case management, and working with internal and outside defense counsel to resolve cases timely and cost effectively.  Responsibilities also include serving as a corporate witness at mediations, hearings, and/or depositions, as needed.  Synchrony’s litigation portfolio generally consists of individual consumer (cardholder) lawsuits with allegations involving credit and operational practices.  This position requires an understanding of the lifecycle for all accounts, across all platforms, and familiarity with Synchrony’s systems of record to conduct account-level research.  In addition, this position requires coordination with all levels and functions across the business to obtain and synthesize the necessary information and documentation. 

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Research allegations and formulate a preliminary analysis regarding the merits of the claim and potential exposure.

  • Identify and obtain relevant documentation to substantiate defense of claims.

  • Evaluate claims and exposure to determine strategic recommendation.

  • Identify and, if appropriate, present to a cross-functional team, key process issues and case trends that may require escalation and improvement.

  • Review, verify and execute affidavits or declarations to support motions, claims and/or discovery responses.

  • Evaluate claims to determine whether any third parties might be liable or could contribute toward a resolution.  If so, act as a liaison with supplier manager or client relationship manager to seek indemnification or contribution (if appropriate).

  • Participate in the review, analysis and response to discovery.

  • Ensure Synchrony’s compliance with terms of settlement agreements with respect to relevant account(s) at issue upon resolution of litigation.

  • Serve as corporate representative to testify on Synchrony’s behalf, as needed, with occasional travel.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or in lieu of degree, 4 years Synchrony Operations experience.  

  • Strong knowledge of Synchrony’s overall business operations.

  • Proficient in First Data (FD).

  • Experience directly investigating, reviewing, researching and/or analyzing complaints against Synchrony. 

  • Ability to manage multiple cases/projects simultaneously and deliver on demanding deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Unquestioned integrity, ability to maintain confidentiality, and high ethical standards.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with ability to interface with cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required

Desired Characteristics:

  • Proficient in Debt Manager (DM10).  

  • Experience in Content Navigator (P8/I2R Repository), ACQA, SHERLOCK, WAUSAU, Content Navigator, Vision Plus.

  • Experience in a legal environment (law firm or in-house legal department) or familiarity with litigation.

Grade/Level: 11

                                                                                      

The salary range for this position is 90,000.00 - 155,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

                                 

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

At Synchrony, our way of working allows you to have the option to work from home near one of our Hubs or come into one of our offices. You will be required to commute to your nearest Hub (either virtual or physical) for in-person engagement activities such as regular business or team meetings, training and culture events.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles.  Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles.  Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post.  All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
