The MCUXpresso tools family provide a complete development solution for NXP microcontrollers making it a snap to create and evolve your first embedded application taking advantage of the MCUXpresso SDK software package and NXP reference boards. At the center of the offering, the MCUXpresso IDE stands as the reference Eclipse based environment tailored for NXP microcontrollers.
Since variety is essential in the microcontroller world, the MCUXpresso tools family plans to deliver key functionalities under a new face harnessing the power of Web technologies, enabling a modern look and feel, a streamlined and snappy operation, as well as front-end integration with dedicated NXP services via Web APIs.
Your Responsibilities :
This role within the NXP MCUXpresso VS Code team is to work closely with the existing team in the design, development and testing of various components and functionality within MCUXpresso VS Code. The role will involve working on new functionality as well as enhancing existing product features. A key requirement of this role will be to gain a good understanding of the needs of our customers who design and debug with MCUXpresso VS Code, and then use this knowledge to enhance the product.
Your Profile
Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent.
Strong embedded fundamentals: familiarity with MCU development workflows (build/flash/debug), toolchains, and cross-platform considerations.
Good understanding of client UI design principles; experience building user-facing features with HTML/CSS (webviews or UI panels in VS Code/Electron contexts).
Fluent with Git (branching, reviews, CI-friendly workflows).
Team spirit — able to cooperate and learn from technical experts in distributed, international teams.
Good command of the English language (written + spoken) for collaboration and documentation.
Nice to Have:
Previous experience developing a Visual Studio Code extension
Experience with Rust in VS Code ecosystems
Experience with embedded debugging setups for Rust
Familiarity with Electron/Chromium-based client app architecture
Basic knowledge of Python or scripting for automation
Technical Skills (Core)
Rust proficiency.
Working knowledge of cargo build workflows and dependency management (workspace, features, profiles, target configs).
Strong TypeScript/JavaScript engineering skills for VS Code extension development (activation, commands, tasks, debug integration, UI contributions).

Your Responsibilities
Deliver a Rust-first development experience inside MCUXpresso for VS Code, centered on Embassy-based embedded applications.
Define and implement an Embassy repository integration model comparable in user experience to existing supported ecosystems (e.g., Zephyr/SDK-style flows), including:
repository onboarding (clone/import),
project discovery,
build/run configurations,
debugging and flashing workflows.
Integrate and maintain Rust toolchain workflows (installation/detection/validation), aligning with the broader MCUXpresso tooling strategy.
Build and maintain extension features that orchestrate external tools reliably (cargo, probe/debug backends), ensuring robust UX and diagnostics.

Contract: This is a fulltime position with a permanent contract
