Job Posting Title: Digital Technical Analyst

Salary: £35,833 - 38,000 (depending on experience)

Location: Peterborough, UK

  • 25 days annual leave,    

  • Up to 10% Bonus

  • Contributory pension scheme - Caterpillar will double the employee's contribution Up to 10%

The Opportunity:

The selected candidate will become part of the Caterpillar IT team (Power & Energy Segment) located in Peterborough. This position involves supporting the delivery of the Caterpillar Modern Manufacturing strategy for the Peterborough site and replication to other sites in the segment and region. This new strategy focusses on modernising the manufacturing environment through connectivity including MES, shopfloor devices, PLCs and other Operating Technology with a view to drive automation and serve digital user facing solutions

The successful applicant will join a global team supporting comprehensive business operations, offering opportunities for professional growth and exposure to various business functions. Additionally, the role provides the opportunity to gain experience with numerous application technologies and IT architectures.

This is an excellent chance for a skilled technical analyst to enhance their capabilities by shaping and maintaining an IT solution for a major international organisation.

What You Will Do

  • Delivering on technical roadmaps of business processes and applications to support business objectives, standards and processes.

  • Documenting data flows and ensuring connectivity of key shopfloor assets to drive data into the new digital solutions.

  • Onboard new software to Caterpillar software catalogue.

  • Analysing business requirements, current technical gaps needed to support business strategies and expectations.

  • Communicating site feedback to the central technology teams in order to improve deliverables and clarify business requirements and use cases.

  • Help the business understand IT elements required to meet complex business requirements in secure and compliant ways


Systems Thinking: Knowledge of the critical interdependencies among individual system elements that help and hinder performance; ability to plan and design solutions that synchronize resources to achieve business results.
Level demonstrated: Basic Understanding (which could include):

  • Demonstrates the ability to describe the interrelationships among elements of a system.

  • Applies the concept of analytical thinking to identify problems in a system.

  • Seeks help to learn about system elements outside area of responsibility.

  • Identifies the key elements of a system.

Business Intelligence: Knowledge of business intelligence; ability to utilize business processes and technologies for gathering, storing, analysing, and providing access to data that helps the organization make better business decisions.
Level demonstrated: Basic Understanding (which could include):

  • Organizes and maintains data to be captured in the data warehouse(s) for digital applications.

  • Develops processes for transforming aggregate data into useful business information.

  • Evaluates key benefits, drawbacks and rationale for existing BI activities.

Application Design, Architecture: Knowledge of basic activities and deliverables of application design; ability to utilize application design methodologies, tools and techniques to convert business requirements and logical models into a technical application design.
Level demonstrated: Basic Understanding (which could include):

  • Describes basic activities and deliverables associated with application design.

  • Discusses technical architecture relevant to own environment.

  • Identifies technical application architecture standards and considerations.

Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers and other development tools.
Level demonstrated: Basic Understanding (which could include):

  • Reports software connectivity and integration issues.

  • Administers software migration and contingency plans related to own function.

  • Tests key features for the entire software infrastructure environment.


Candidates will be able to demonstrate some of the following technical skills:

  • Snowflake / Azure data platforms

  • Database query using SQL or similar

  • Programming / Scripting using python or similar

  • Power BI

  • Wireframes

  • This role is based in our office in Peterborough 5 days a week.
