IONQ is seeking a Staff M365 Platform Engineer & Owner to serve as the primary technical lead and operational steward for our Microsoft 365 GCC High ecosystem. This role is designed for a high-level individual contributor who can bridge the gap between strategic governance and deep technical execution. You will own the technical roadmap for our tenant while personally driving the complex configurations, migrations, and automations required to maintain a secure, compliant, and high-performing environment.

Responsibilities:

Platform Ownership & Engineering

  • Tenant Stewardship: Act as the primary technical owner for the M365 GCC High tenant, ensuring all workloads (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Entra ID) are integrated and optimized.
  • Hands-on Administration: Lead the technical configuration of mail flow, transport rules, and DNS for Exchange Online, ensuring GCC High compliance and reliability.
  • Automation & Scripting: Build and maintain PowerShell scripts and Graph API integrations to automate lifecycle management, site provisioning, and security auditing.
  • Governance Implementation: Translate high-level governance policies into technical controls, including DLP, Conditional Access, and retention labels.

Migration & Integration (M&A)

  • Technical Execution: Lead the hands-on migration of identities and data (mailboxes, drives, sites) during Mergers and Acquisitions, utilizing tools like ShareGate or BitTitan.
  • Mail Flow Design: Design and validate complex mail routing and shared/resource mailbox mapping during tenant consolidations.
  • Vendor Validation: Review and validate the technical deliverables of external partners to ensure they meet IONQ’s engineering and compliance standards.

Operational Excellence

  • Tier 3 Support: Serve as the final escalation point for complex technical issues involving mail routing, identity synchronization, or platform performance.
  • Service Lifecycle: Manage the rollout of new M365 features, assessing their impact on the GCC High environment and security posture.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical runbooks, architectural diagrams, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).


You’d be a good fit with

  • Platform Depth: 6-8+ years of hands-on experience managing M365/Exchange Online in an enterprise environment.
  • GCC High Expertise: Proven experience operating within sovereign cloud boundaries (GCC/GCCH) and understanding their specific technical limitations.
  • Identity & Security: Strong proficiency in Entra ID (Azure AD), including identity synchronization, application registrations, and security/compliance center configurations.
  • Scripting Mastery: Expert-level PowerShell skills for managing M365 workloads at scale.
  • M&A Experience: Direct experience executing at least one major tenant-to-tenant migration.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Compliance: Familiarity with NIST 800-171, CMMC, or DFARS 7012 requirements.
