Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This is an anticipated vacancy. This position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, NC. The Primary purpose of this position is to perform routine, preventive and corrective maintenance tasks and repairs ensuring that assigned systems within an Adult Correctional Facility and support buildings are maintained in a safe and efficient manner. This position is required to perform at the journeyman level in the Electrical trade and at the journeyman level in at least one other trade preferably HVAC/Plumbing. This position requires multiple trade skills that will allow him/her to perform multiple lighting, building wiring, conduit, control wiring, perimeter lighting and repairs to electrical equipment. This position will repair commercial kitchen equipment and make minor repairs to buildings both interior and exterior and may make repairs to HVAC equipment and plumbing systems. He/she will be expected to supervise the work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labor (including offenders) to assist him/her in completing assigned tasks and provide support to other staff members preforming trade skills during preventative maintenance or other duties assigned by the supervisor as deemed necessary.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
