Job Summary

Under direct supervision, provide a variety of support in the installation, maintenance and repair of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within the Nuclear Plant facility.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

  • Follow maintenance schedule to ensure regular and preventive maintenance work assignments are completed when required for all air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems included in Utility Management Program Inventory.
  • Assist with service calls, repairs, and equipment installations as directed by HVAC Supervisor.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, diagnostic evaluations, and routine inspections on air conditioning and other physical plant systems and equipment as required.
  • Fill out Maintenance Work Orders relating to HVAC work requirements and submit to maintenance supervision.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork in a proper manner for the purchase, stocking, and/or use of all HVAC materials, parts, and components required for work order completion. Also ensure work orders contain appropriate and accurate information before submitting completed work orders to HVAC Supervisor.

HVAC Tech, Jr:

Education:

  • Two-year Vocational-Tech diploma or equivalent education (High School graduate plus equivalent technical training and/or experience).

Work Experience:

  • One year experience in the electrical field. Combined training and/or experience requirements must meet a minimum of 3 years.

HVAC Tech:

Education:

  • Two-year Vocational-Tech diploma or equivalent education (High School graduate plus equivalent technical training and/or experience).

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of four years' related work experience. Specific knowledge of nuclear standards and nuclear policies, practices and procedures relating to plant operations.

HVAC Tech, Senior:

Education:

  • Two-year Vocational-Tech diploma or equivalent education (High School graduate plus equivalent technical training and or experience).

Work Experience:

  • Six years of related work experience. Specific knowledge of nuclear standards and nuclear policies, practices and procedures relating to plant operations. Strong interpersonal skills.

Other Requirements (Applies to All Levels):

  • Successful completion of the Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position. A review of Employment Testing Information, Test-Taking tips, and the MASS Practice Test may be helpful. A link to these materials may be found at AEP.com/Careers by selecting Employment testing. A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.
  • Assist engineers/others in root cause determination of equipment and component failures, and in preparation of data for engineering studies.
  • Operate power and hand tool to assemble and disassemble devices for repair.
  • Support and participate in the Emergency Plan Organization, and Corrective Action Program activities as assigned, and in accordance with procedures and policies applicable for the assigned role.
  • Perform all duties, and work with others in a safe manner, in compliance with appropriate company safety policies and rules.
  • Assume responsibility for continuously upgrading of knowledge and skill.
  • Recommend cost savings strategies and techniques that will not compromise quality and individual safety.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Performance of duties may involve work in hazardous areas and possible radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the NRC.
  • Work location will include a plant environment which may include exposure to: heat, cold, and noise.
  • Work location will include outdoors, and therefore subject to weather conditions. Changes to these minimum requirements require review of ANSI N18.1-1971 or current governing document if revised AND Department/Section Manager concurrence.

Must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.

  • HVAC Tech, Jr. hourly range: $34.99 - $36.39

  • HVAC Tech hourly range: $40.84 - $43.02

  • HVAC Tech, Sr. hourly range: $46.31 - $48.52

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M – Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.   Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
