Job Description
At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks that powers millions of websites and other Internet properties for customers ranging from individual bloggers to SMBs to Fortune 500 companies. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code. Internet properties powered by Cloudflare all have web traffic routed through its intelligent global network, which gets smarter with every request. As a result, they see significant improvement in performance and a decrease in spam and other attacks. Cloudflare was named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Cultures list and ranked among the World’s Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.
At Cloudflare, we’re not looking for people who wait for a polished roadmap; we’re looking for the builders who see the cracks in the Internet that everyone else has simply learned to live with. We value candidates who have the instinct to spot a "normalized" problem and the AI-native curiosity to create a solution using the latest tools. Our culture is built on iteration, leveraging AI to ship faster today to make it better tomorrow, while ensuring that every improvement, no matter how small, is shared across the team to lift everyone up. If you’re the type of person who values curiosity over bureaucracy, and that AI is a partner in solving tough problems to keep the Internet moving forward, you’ll fit right in.
Available Locations: Washington D.C.
About Cloudflare's Legal Team
The Cloudflare Legal team is at the forefront of some of the most complex and novel legal issues in technology today. You will be directly supporting our Policy and Public Sector Legal teams. These teams work collaboratively to navigate the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, ensure Cloudflare’s compliance with stringent government standards (like FedRAMP and StateRAMP), and advocate for policies that promote a secure, privacy-respecting, and innovative Internet.
What you’ll do

- AI Policy & Compliance Research: Track and analyze emerging artificial intelligence legislation and frameworks across North America, including US federal initiatives (e.g., Executive Orders, NIST AI RMF), state-level AI regulations (e.g., California, Colorado), and Canada’s Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA).
- Cybersecurity Regulatory Tracking: Monitor updates to cybersecurity mandates such as CISA’s Secure by Design guidelines, SEC incident reporting rules, and critical infrastructure protection frameworks.
- Public Sector Enablement: Assist the Public Sector legal team in reviewing and updating compliance materials related to FedRAMP, StateRAMP, and IRAP requirements, helping to accelerate our mission to secure government entities.
- Drafting & Advocacy: Draft legal memos, policy briefs, and internal guidance documents outlining how new North American tech regulations impact Cloudflare’s product roadmap, including our AI Gateway and zero-trust security services.
Examples of desirable skills, knowledge and experience
- Education: Currently enrolled as a 1L or 2L in an ABA-accredited law school, with an anticipated graduation date of 2027 or 2028.
- Tech-Forward Mindset: A strong demonstrated interest in technology law, public policy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
- Analytical Rigor: Excellent legal research and writing skills, with the ability to distill dense regulatory text into clear, business-friendly advice.
- Initiative: A self-starter mentality. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
- Ability to commit to a minimum 12 week summer internship.
- In the office 3-5 days a wee
