Job Description
The Senior MBSE Architect will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and sustainment of the Joint Transportation Management System (JTMS). This role will participate in reengineering transportation and financial business processes and requires deep expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), systems architecture, and integration of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions. The MBSE Architect Senior will collaborate with stakeholders, design system architectures, and ensure the successful implementation of these architectures within the JTMS framework. The MBSE Architect will collaborate with cross–functional teams to collect data and conduct modeling and analysis of technology resources, apply analytical techniques that recommend technical solutions to help the organization’s IT portfolio achieve its objectives, and maintain and develop solution architecture including Operational, System, Capabilities and Standard DoDAF views.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in reengineering transportation and financial business processes to support the implementation of the JTMS, a DoW initiative aimed at integrating end-to-end transportation with auditable financial operations.
- Lead the design and implementation of MBSE solutions by applying Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) and Business Process Modeling (BPM) methodologies to document end-to-end business processes specifically utilizing the USTRANSCOM BPMN standards using modeling tools such as Cameo and Visio.
- Participate in BPR sessions with diverse stakeholders and serve as an ERP and IT Transformation SME.
- Apply ERP experience to help federal customers migrate business processes to the JTMS SAP solutions.
- Assess and adapt operational system, data, services, and capabilities architecture views to meet program objectives.
- Apply architectural best practices and sound methodologies to support capabilities analysis and Business Process Reengineering.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system architectures that meet client requirements and align with industry’s best practices.
- Develop and maintain digital system process maps, architecture framework models, illustrations, ensuring traceability and alignment with agile requirements.
- Perform impact analysis and generate technical documentation, including system specifications, interface specifications, primitive proposals/scoping, and CDRL documents.
- Ensure system designs are auditable, secure, and compliant with DoW standards to include required controls, policies, and security.
- Mentor and guide junior architects and engineers in MBSE best practices and methodologies.
- Participate in collaboration sessions with stakeholders to understand and validate AS-IS processes, identify and address capability gaps, ensuring alignment with JTMS objectives of auditability, transparency, and optimized resource allocation.
- Leverage MBSE to capture business rules, decision logic, exception handling, and end-to-end process flows.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering.
- 3+ years of experience with Enterprise Architecture using DoDAF.
- 3+ years of experience with developing BPMN models.
- Proven experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo Enterprise Architecture, or similar.
- Applied knowledge and understanding of USTRANSCOM’s mission and the Joint Deployment and Distribution Enterprise (JDDE), including the ‘Great 8’ Stakeholders (e.g., Army, Navy, Air Force, USMC, USCG, DLA, DCMA and DFAS) and 4th Component (Commercial Transportation Service Providers (TSPs).
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP, and cloud environments.
- Security clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work as a team member in a diverse group to include government and military personnel.
- Strong communication (oral and written) and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- High attention to detail, particularly with documentation and reporting.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
Desired:
- Master's Degree.
- Current, active Secret security clearance.
- Familiarity with SAP ERP
- Applied knowledge of ERP Implementations within the Department of War (DoW).
- Applied knowledge of, and experience with, the USTRANSCOM Lines of Operation (LOOs) related to CONUS Freight, Sealift, Airlift, and OCONUS Freight as invoked for integrated multi-model operations.
- Applied knowledge of, and experience with, the USTRANSCOM Plan, Order, Ship, Track, -Pay (POST-P) lifecycle for movement requirements.
- Applied knowledge of DOTmLPF-P related to identification of essential change impacts that new materiel solutions have on Doctrine, Organization, Training, Leadership, Personnel, Facilities, and Policy.
- Certification in MBSE or systems engineering (e.g., INCOSE CSEP).
- Experience in process improvement and implementing financial management best practices
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence
- SAFe Agile experience, SAFe Agilist Certification
There is no clearance requirement to begin employment. However, as a requirement of continued employment in this position you will be required to obtain a Secret clearance
