Job Description:

TD Asset Management (TDAM) is seeking a Vice President & Director, Lead of Product Development, reporting to the Head of Product & Marketing Intelligence (PMI) within the Global Product department. The PMI team has a mandate to shape and execute a comprehensive product strategy across multiple jurisdictions, spanning public and private markets, multiple vehicle structures, and including both retail and institutional channels.

This individual will be responsible for the ideation and design of new investment products as well as changes to existing products. The role requires a forward-looking leader who can anticipate market evolution, translate client needs into differentiated solutions, and ensure TDAM's products remain competitive, scalable, and aligned with its long-term vision.

The successful candidate will bring deep expertise across various vehicles, a strong understanding of Canadian and global distribution dynamics, and a proven ability to lead complex product innovation efforts across asset classes including equities, fixed income, private markets, and multi-asset strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of TDAM’s investment philosophy and methodologies.
  • Manage the product development lifecycle from initial concept to obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Lead discussions with key stakeholders regarding the structuring and design of new products.
  • Supervise the preparation of business cases, market sizing assessments, and competitive analyses to support product proposals.
  • Guide the creation of robust business cases by integrating diverse qualitative and quantitative data to present substantiated arguments for new or improved product offerings, encompassing both public and private market investments for retail and institutional markets within Canada and globally.
  • Communicate proposals and concepts effectively to various internal groups, including senior management, to instruct, prioritize, and ensure alignment of interests.
  • Evaluate and prioritize opportunities across multiple investment vehicles, potentially including mutual funds, ETFs, SMAs, UCITs, ICAVs, SICAVs, AIFs, and other semi-liquid or private market solutions, to address emerging client requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations, ensuring compliance with all legal standards for new products.
  • Provide oversight and leadership to a team comprising subject matter experts and technical product specialists.

Stakeholder Engagement:

The following interactions constitute an integral part of this position:

  • Demonstrates outstanding leadership capabilities with proven experience in managing and developing both junior and senior team members. Works collaboratively with the broader PMI team (Strategy and Research), as well as other teams within the Global Product department, including Product Management, Product Implementation, and Product Offering Disclosure.
  • This position requires significant collaboration with investment partners throughout the organization (portfolio management), as well as with legal, operations, capital markets, tax, sales, and marketing teams, in order to design, develop, and commercialize new products efficiently.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Over 15 years of experience in the investment fund industry and/or asset management, with a proven record in product development and established team leadership capabilities.
  • Extensive expertise across diverse asset classes and vehicle structures, including both liquid and semi-liquid/private market offerings.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficient in leading and conducting comprehensive business analyses, encompassing financial, product portfolio, market, and competitive evaluations.
  • In-depth knowledge of domestic and global wealth management and distribution dynamics, with particular familiarity in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
  • Advanced stakeholder management and influencing abilities, supported by experience engaging senior executives and investment teams.
  • Strong strategic thinking coupled with creative problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional project and process management proficiency, with an emphasis on effective execution.
  • Capability to thrive in fast-paced environments, manage multiple concurrent projects, and adapt to ambiguity and change.
  • Undergraduate degree required; CFA Charterholder strongly preferred.
  • Graduate degree (M.Sc./MBA) preferred.
  • CAIA Charterholder is considered an asset.
  • Legal background not required but is considered an asset.
