Senior Director, Affordability Analytics & Reporting
This role leads the National Ancillary & Out of Network Protection Analytics & Reporting organization and is a key enterprise leader accountable for advancing Cigna’s U.S. employer affordability strategy. The position plays a pivotal role in reducing unit cost pressure, managing medical cost trend risk, and enabling sustainable affordability improvements across national ancillary and out-of-network categories.
The Senior Director is responsible for translating complex analytics into clear, actionable affordability insights that inform contracting strategy, product design, and market-facing solutions. This affordability team reports on the full lifecycle of value delivery, including opportunity analytics, pre-deployment estimation, and post-deployment monitoring, and enterprise return on investment. Our team supports the foundational cadence of ensuring continuous visibility to the progression of performance against annual targets through frequent and recurring updates. This role partners closely with Affordability, Contracting, Product, Clinical, Network, Sales/UW, and Finance leaders to influence decisions that balance cost reduction, customer impact, and long-term value creation.
Enterprise Affordability Strategy & Leadership
- Serve as a senior leader driving enterprise affordability strategy, with direct accountability for how national ancillary and out-of-network initiatives impact cost trends and financial performance.
- Redefine and operationalize affordability goals, ensuring alignment across contracting, product, pricing, and analytics teams.
- Establish clear governance to track affordability forecasts to actuals, enabling transparency, accountability, and executive decision-making.
- Proactively identify emerging unit cost risks, trend drivers, and affordability opportunities, elevating insights to senior leadership with clear implications and recommended actions.
- Enable leadership to make informed value vs. cost vs. abrasion trade-off decisions, grounded in data and customer impact considerations.
Strategic Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and develop two high-performing teams focused on National Ancillary and Out-of-Network Analytics & Reporting, with a shared mission of advancing affordability outcomes.
- Foster a culture that prioritizes affordability impact, analytical rigor, innovation, and continuous improvement, moving beyond reporting to insight-driven action.
- Ensure team priorities, capacity, and skillsets are aligned to the most critical enterprise affordability needs.
- Partner effectively within a matrixed organization, influencing outcomes through collaboration and credibility.
Affordability, Contracting & Financial Analytics
- Drive unit cost affordability planning across national ancillary and out-of-network categories, monitoring trends, risks, and performance against affordability targets.
- Partner closely with Contracting and Network teams to evaluate, shape, and support national contracting strategies, including financial impact, savings potential, and execution considerations.
- Lead the development, refinement, and standardization of savings, earnings, and vendor contract financial models, ensuring consistency and credibility across the enterprise.
- Advance affordability measurement by refining how savings, earnings, and cost containment outcomes are defined, calculated, and communicated.
- Strengthen financial projections, earnings tracking, and reserve planning to ensure affordability initiatives are accurately reflected in financial outcomes.
Affordability Reporting, Insights & Innovation
- Deliver clear, executive-ready affordability insights that influence strategy across Product, Clinical, Network, and Contracting organizations.
- Ensure new offerings and solutions are designed with affordability at the core, supported by robust financial and operational analytics prior to market launch.
- Refine and enhance operational, financial, and vendor performance reporting, with a focus on affordability impact and sustainability.
- Align pricing methodologies, financial assumptions, and performance tracking to support consistent affordability oversight across initiatives.
- Anticipate future affordability demands and ensure the broader actuarial and analytics ecosystem has the capacity and capabilities to support evolving needs.
Talent Development & Capability Building
- Attract, develop, and retain top actuarial and analytics talent with a strong focus on affordability strategy, business acumen, and executive communication.
- Motivate and challenge leaders and individual contributors to deepen their understanding of what drives healthcare affordability and how analytics can influence outcomes.
- Ensure team goals and development plans are tightly aligned to enterprise affordability objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- FSA / MAAA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in actuarial, pricing, finance, or analytics roles, including leadership of enterprise or national affordability initiatives preferred.
- Deep understanding of medical pricing, provider contracting, and healthcare affordability strategy.
- Proven ability to translate complex analytics into clear, actionable insights for executive leaders.
- Experience leveraging advanced analytics, modeling techniques, and data science to support affordability outcomes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence in a highly matrixed environment.
- Self-starter with a strong orientation toward continuous improvement, ownership, and impact.
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 176,500 - 294,100 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
