Job Summary

Perform the work necessary to ensure reliable operation of all plant machinery and mechanical equipment by troubleshooting problems, performing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks using drawings, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications. Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to the appropriate supervision. Actively participate in continuous improvement activities.

This posting represents multiple positions that offer a range of opportunities for advancement. The minimum qualifications outlined below apply to the CMF Maintenance Mechanic st Yr, with increased requirements for the CMF Maintenance Mechanic 2nd yr and CMF Maintenance Mechanic 3rd yr levels.

What you'll do:

Essential Job Functions and Duties:

The following will be performed under the direction of a journeyman industrial maintenance mechanic or supervisor:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical components of plant equipment.

  • Learn to diagnose troubleshoot, align, repair, and maintain mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components such as the boiler, turbine generator, pumps, control valves, fans, other rotating equipment, and associated piping.

  • Learn to operate machine shop and portable machine equipment such as lathes, shapers, drill presses, milling machines, boring bars and similar machining equipment to produce accurate tolerance on all shapes including those not readily machined on standard machine tools. Develop jigs and fixtures as necessary and performing precision fitting of component parts as required.

  • Learn to use monitoring equipment such as vibration and thermal test equipment, to assess equipment conditions.

  • Learn to perform electric arc and oxyacetylene structural welding to repair equipment. Perform oxyacetylene cutting, heating, and brazing piping and structural components.

  • Learn to erect and remove scaffolding and perform rigging, lifting and blocking.

  • Learn to operate and maintain mobile equipment such as manlifts, forklifts, backhoes, etc. and perform pre-use inspections.

  • Learn to prepare, update, and maintain records and documentation as required.

  • Develop basic knowledge of industrial processes and systems.

What we're looking for: 

Education requirements listed below:

High School Diploma or GED. Associate degree in an industrial maintenance/mechanical discipline or Certificate ( Electronics/Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation) or equivalent experience as stated below

Work experience listed below:

  • Without degree, add 2 yr applicable experience.

  • With accredited, Associates degree (2 years) No applicable experience.

  • With Certificate of Completion (18 months) and no applicable experience.

  • Completion of AEP Apprentice progression .

  • Job experience relative to this position: Steel mills, paper mills, nuclear, nuclear navy service, chemical, oil refinery, power plant, or similar industry.

Licenses/Certifications: Must possess the appropriate State driver's license.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test is required for this position.

  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays.

  • Minimum long distance travel required but the inspection of remote equipment is a daily requirement for this position.

  • Must respond to callouts in both outage and non-outage work to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules.

  • Must be able to learn and comply with all applicable plant operating instructions and procedures.

  • Must be able to learn and comply with the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work environment and report unsafe conditions and practices.

  • Must learn and have a working knowledge of Safety and Environmental guidelines.

  • Must be able to learn and properly use the tools and equipment applicable to work duties.

  • Must be able to read, interpret and work from simple prints and specifications.

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and written.

  • Demonstrate professional conduct and effective interactions with employees, contractors and others.

  • Must be willing and able to work inside designated confined space entry areas, elevated areas and in hot and cold temperatures.

  • Must be able to wear respirator when required.

  • Train for fire fighting, first aid, AED and other emergency response programs as required.

  • Demonstration of applicable knowledge, skills and abilities are required for next progression within job family.

Compensation Range:

$33.92 - $38.46

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M – Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.   Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
