The Opportunity:

Join CACI’s innovative Optical and Photonic Solutions (OPS) team as a New Product Manufacturing Engineer. OPS is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge custom photonic hardware tailored for US Government applications. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in leading production teams to establish a robust production environment, build first-time prototypes, and sustain and grow the environment to support low-rate initial production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Transition Leadership:
    • Lead the transition of products from design to prototyping and low-volume manufacturing.
    • Develop and lead production planning, providing accurate labor, cost, and schedule estimates to support programs and proposals.
    • Identify, set up, and qualify production workstations.
    • Author detailed work instructions to describe and control build, assembly, and testing processes.
    • Define requirements and procure custom fixtures necessary for photonic subsystem assemblies.
  • Team Oversight:
    • Oversee the day-to-day activities of a team comprising laboratory technicians and junior photonic engineers in constructing high-power photonic sources.
    • Resolve roadblocks and ensure compliance with the quality system.
    • Monitor cost and schedule performance, assigning tasks and ensuring continuous progress.
    • Consult with engineering leads to address non-compliances and out-of-family data sets.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Report to the program manager and interact with other small program teams to coordinate activities across build, unit test, design engineering, supply chain, material handling, and quality assurance.
    • Ensure compliance with OPS’ quality system and support on-site customer audits.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and mentor lower-level professionals.
  • Must be a US person.
  • BA/BS degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a manufacturing engineer or in a related role.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of optical fiber splicing and photonic system fabrication.
  • Proficiency in using lightwave measurement equipment, including power detectors, optical spectrum analyzers, polarization-extinction ratio meters, polarimeters, and optical time domain reflectometers. Skilled in analyzing and interpreting data from these instruments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Infor LN.
  • Proficient use of mechanical computer-aided design software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Proficient use of lab automation software.
  • Skilled use of 3D printers, machine shop tools, and laser cutters.
