The Datacentre and Energy (DCE) organization is seeking an experienced applications engineer to support the Power Controller (PWC) team in Limerick.
Job Description
The Datacentre and Energy group is seeking a motivated, technology focused, experienced power applications engineer to be part of our growing product development team. Within this role the engineer may manage multiple projects and priorities supporting power products
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving and communication capabilities, providing development and technical support with the ability to both self-lead and work within a team as required.
Role Overview
The Product Applications Engineer supports power controller products across the full product development cycle—providing hands-on debug, design guidance, and customer design-cycle support. You’ll create and deliver the tools and collateral that help teams and customers succeed, including evaluation material, reference designs, and clear documentation. Success in this role requires strong electronics fundamentals, high curiosity, and the ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply them in real designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply strong electrical engineering fundamentals (analog and digital), including control-loop concepts, architecture and practical lab debugging.
- Develop proof-of-concept simulation models and correlate simulation results to bench performance.
- Support board design, bring-up, debug, and documentation for reference designs and evaluations.
- Execute new-product evaluations and detailed test plans to identify limitations and application considerations.
- Deliver technical presentations, trainings, and written application content.
- Represent the customer perspective within cross-functional development teams to support informed design decisions.
- Provide hands-on customer support through the full design cycle, including troubleshooting and recommendations.
Required Skills
- Power electronics expertise, including operation and control of high-voltage topologies (e.g., PSFB, DAB, resonant LLC/CLLC).
- Ability to work independently on application circuits for power products.
- Strong analytical and communication skills; effective collaboration in multidisciplinary teams
- Programming/scripting understanding to create, modify, and maintain code for analysis or automation; comfortable using AI tools to generate code and then validate and adapt it.
- Experience with schematic capture, PCB design exposure, and simulation tools (e.g., LTspice, PSIM, SIMPLIS, PLECs and Simulink/Matlab.
- Hands-on lab experience (oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, etc.)
- Ability to design, bench test, and debug power electronic circuits and support issues through the product lifecycle
- Positive, proactive attitude and strong teamwork skills
Preferred
- Experience with Digital power electronics and control concepts (advantage)
Qualifications
- Honours Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Electronic & Computer Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of semiconductor industry experience, including high-voltage power electronics.
