The Director of Medical Transport Clinical Safety Programs is responsible for overseeing the clinical safety aspects of medical transport operations. This role involves ensuring that all clinical procedures and patient care practices adhere to safety standards and regulatory requirements, thereby safeguarding the well-being of patients and medical staff during transport.

Essential Functions

  • Clinical Safety Program Management: Develop and manage the clinical safety program, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular audits and inspections of clinical practices, equipment, and patient care protocols to identify potential safety hazards.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into clinical incidents and adverse events, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Safety Training: Provide comprehensive safety training and education to medical staff, including paramedics, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in patient transport.
  • Risk Management: Monitor and analyze clinical safety performance metrics, identify trends, and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Policy Development: Review and update clinical safety policies, procedures, and manuals to reflect current best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Establish and maintain emergency response procedures for clinical incidents during transport.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including aviation safety, regulatory agencies, and healthcare providers, to ensure integrated safety practices

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior clinical experience requiring licensure or certification, i.e. RN, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist.
  • Clinical experience in the air medical environment.
  • Prior experience with safety & quality assurance programs.
  • Knowledge of both FAA-required SMS concepts and general safety management principles and practices and the ability to apply these to patients and air medical crew members.
  • Intermediate proficiency with spreadsheets and document management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in a patient safety related role, reviewing and analyzing operations.
  • Previous leadership experience in a clinical environment.
  • SMS (Safety Management System) course or equivalent patient safety qualification, i.e. MTSP-C, CPPS, CPHQ, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  • Broad operational knowledge and experience in the functions of an air medical organization.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
