Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineering Verification Planning – Capability Upgrade Program (Staff Engineer) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located in Melbourne, FL.

In this role, you will be a dynamic Systems Engineering (SE) leader to provide technical support to a high visibility capability upgrade program. You will orchestrate all SE disciplines—Safety, Requirements & Verification, Specialty Engineering, etc. —towards ensuring the program is scoped appropriately for system-level verification within schedule, cost, and performance objectives. This role demands a hands on technical expert with strong communication skills to coordinate with the USG towards building a robust and comprehensive verification program.

Roles and Responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership of Verification Planning
    • Direct day to day coordination across multidisciplinary boundaries and with USG counterparts.
    • Ensure review deliverables are complete, technically sound, and aligned with program milestones.
  • Proposal & Estimating Support
    • Contribute technical expertise to long term effort proposals, cost estimates, and schedule forecasts.
  • Requirements & Verification Management (DOORS)
    • Ensure requirements are captured, traced, and verified throughout the lifecycle.
    • Develop and maintain DXL scripts to automate routine tasks, generate custom reports, and improve data consistency.
  • Process Improvement
    • Conduct periodic SE process reviews; identify bottlenecks and implement best practice enhancements.
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., root cause analysis, lessons learned capture, tool integration).
  • Expected Skills
    • Experience with BOE development
    • Experience briefing or leading technical reviews with USG Customers

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in a STEM field and at least 12 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field and at least 10 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a PhD and at least 8 years of relevant military / professional experience
  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced STEM degree
  • Strong knowledge of lab- and system-level test planning and execution, system safety, requirements & verification, and specialty engineering domains
  • Experience with IBM DOORS
  • Leadership and team-lead experience
  • Earned Value Management
  • Prior experience with capability upgrade programs

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
