Role Summary: Are you ready to lead teams that keep Caterpillar machines productive long after they leave the factory? Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Senior Design Technologist focused on the Aftermarket to provide technical and people leadership for aftermarket engineering activities. In this influential role, you will lead a high-performing team to deliver timely, high-quality engineering solutions that improve machine availability, enable aftermarket growth, and exceed customer and dealer expectations across current and legacy products.

What You’ll Do (Job Duties)

  •  Lead a team of aftermarket engineers and technical contributors supporting parts, kits, retrofits, and field solutions for the global installed base while ensuring alignment with Caterpillar engineering standards.
  • Empower, mentor, and develop employees through effective people leadership, fostering technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Translate customer, dealer, product support, and management feedback into prioritized aftermarket engineering actions that improve reliability, serviceability, warranty performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Quickly respond to customer requests by identifying parts availability quick wins through alternative methods for manufacturing parts, retrofitting existing parts, and core design part development
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex field, dealer, and product support issues and guide the team toward effective, compliant solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Groups, Product Support, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to balance workload, manage priorities, and support aftermarket readiness for NPI programs.
  • Leverage an understanding of strategic product commonality to support supply chain sustainability and find transformative uses of AI to work differently
  • Communicate effectively with global stakeholders, providing clear direction, status, and risk visibility while influencing decisions that impact aftermarket performance and lifecycle cost.

What You Have (Core Skills)

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.


Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • Experience supporting aftermarket, sustainment, or current products engineering.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering teams and influencing without direct authority.
  • Experience collaborating across global teams and time zones.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and develop engineering teams and define how team work contributes to business success.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to guide technical decisions related to product lifecycle support and aftermarket solutions.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to listen, adapt, deliver feedback, and influence across organizations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing aftermarket demands.
  • Familiarity with Paving equipment, heavy equipment, off-highway, or industrial products.
  • Understanding of dealer support models and services-driven engineering.

Additional Details

  • Work location: MN-Brooklyn Park-Paving Products Plant
  • Domestic relocation assistance is not available for this role
  • Visa sponsorship is NOT available for this role.
  • Travel: 5% to 10% domestic and international
  • This position requires 5 days per week in the office (M-F)

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
