Division Specific Information
The Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (CMD) business develops leading-edge instruments, consumables, and software solutions for customers in analytical sciences and research. Within CMD, the IOMS (Inorganic Mass Spectrometry) team supports applications across markets in environmental, geosciences and life sciences.
Location Information
The Field Application Scientist (m/f/d) IOMS supports our customers across the EMEA region through scientific consultation, onsite training, and application support. This role combines approximately 30% laboratory work at our Bremen site with ~70% travel to customer locations across EMEA.
Candidates should either live within driving distance of Bremen or be based near a major airport with convenient access to Bremen and other destinations.
How will you make an impact?
As an EMEA Application Scientist (m/f/d) (IOMS), you will combine laboratory-based activities with field-based customer engagement. You will act as a technical expert supporting customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders by solving complex analytical challenges using inorganic mass spectrometry techniques.
What will you do?
Customer-Facing
- Deliver engaging on-site and remote product training on instrument operation, workflows, and applications
- Drive customer adoption and success through hands-on support, troubleshooting, and workflow optimization
- Conduct technical presentations, seminars, and workshops tailored to diverse customer needs
- Build strong relationships as a trusted technical advisor across the EMEA region
- Support pre-sales and post-sales activities, including technical consultations and solution positioning
Laboratory-Based
- Execute product demonstrations in the demo laboratory, including:
- Pre-demo qualification and planning
- Experimental execution and data generation
- Reporting and evaluation of results with customers
- Develop and optimize applications and analytical methods for IOMS workflows
- Generate high-quality analytical data to support commercial and marketing activities
Application & Technical Expertise
- Customize and optimize customer workflows, including method development and data interpretation
- Troubleshoot complex analytical challenges and deliver practical, solution-oriented outcomes
- Analyze experimental data and communicate insights clearly to both customers and internal stakeholders
- Manage and escalate customer issues as appropriate to ensure timely resolution
Collaboration & Business Support
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, service, and product teams
- Provide customer feedback and market insights to support product development and continuous improvement
- Contribute to regional strategies and business objectives
Scientific Leadership
- Stay up to date with scientific developments, industry trends, and regulatory requirements
- Act as a subject matter expert in IOMS applications
- Support knowledge sharing, internal training, and best practice development
How will you get here?
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or related field
Experience
- 2–3+ years of hands-on experience in environmental, geosciences, or life sciences, including:
- HPLC, IRMS and/or Orbitrap technology (strongly preferred)
- Knowledge of isotopic analysis (strong advantage)
- Analytical method development and data analysis
- Experience in a customer-facing or applications role is highly desirable
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- Proven collaboration and teamwork capabilities across functions and regions
- Fluent in English; additional European languages are an advantage
- Willingness to travel extensively (up to ~70% across EMEA)
