Shell Summer Internship Program (SIP 2026)

Location: Kraków, Poland (Hybrid – 3 days/week in the office)

Duration: July–September 2026

Role Overview

The Data Science Intern will join the Finance & Data Operations Data Science Team and support the delivery of data-driven insights and analytics solutions for business teams within Shell. This is a learning-focused role designed to provide hands-on exposure to real-world analytics projects, tools, and ways of working, while being guided by experienced data scientists.

The intern will work as part of a global team spanning onshore and offshore locations and will contribute to analytics initiatives supporting finance and operations processes.

Purpose of the Role

· Support the Data Science team in the design, execution, and documentation of analytics projects.

· Assist with data preparation, exploratory analysis, and basic modeling tasks under supervision.

· Learn how analytics solutions are translated into business-relevant insights and operational improvements.

· Gain exposure to enterprise data, tools, and governance practices used in a large corporate environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Support ongoing analytics and data science projects by:

o Cleaning, transforming, and validating datasets

o Performing exploratory data analysis and basic statistical analysis

o Assisting with the development and testing of models or analytical logic

· Work closely with data scientists, finance SMEs, and technology partners to understand business problems and analytics goals.

· Help create clear documentation, visualizations, and simple dashboards to communicate findings.

· Participate in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint reviews) and learn agile ways of working.

· Proactively learn new tools, techniques, and business processes relevant to the team’s work.

Required Skills & Competencies (Intern Level)

Analytical & Technical Skills

· Foundational understanding of statistics and data analysis concepts.

· Basic programming knowledge in Python or R (academic or project experience is sufficient).

· Familiarity with data analysis libraries/tools (e.g., pandas, numpy, matplotlib, or equivalents) is an advantage.

· Willingness to learn additional tools such as:

o BI and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)

o Process analytics or automation tools (e.g., Alteryx)

Business & Soft Skills

· Strong numerical and logical reasoning skills.

· Ability to communicate findings clearly and ask the right questions.

· Curiosity and eagerness to learn new business processes and technologies.

· Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a virtual, global team.

The intern may gain exposure to one or more of the following domains, depending on project needs:

· Finance analytics

· Generative AI

Learning Challenges

· Rapid onboarding onto new projects and datasets that may be incomplete or ill-defined.

Education & Experience

· Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Computer Science).

· Demonstrated interest in data analytics or data science through coursework, projects, or internships.

· Prior industry experience is not required.

This role is designed as a developmental opportunity, and expectations will be aligned to an intern-level position with strong mentoring and support from the Data Science team.
