Job Description

St. Cloud State University is seeking applications for Director of Husky Sports Band.

The Department of the Arts is seeking an adjunct instructor to lead the Husky Sports Band (HSB) and serve as its Director. In this role, the qualified person will plan, organize, inspire, and conduct the HSB for various SCSU athletic events throughout the fall and spring semesters each academic year, as well as fulfill administrative needs for the ensemble and its activities.

Compensation is per credit, the current credit rate is a minimum of $1844 per credit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in music or music education

  • Basic conducting skills

  • Experience directing large ensembles including athletic bands

  • 3 years of teaching high school or at the college-level

  • Knowledge or willingness to work with Athletics

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills

  • Evidence of the ability to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualification 

  • DA, DMA or PhD

  • Previous College/University teaching experience

Other Requirements

The position requires coordination with the Athletic Department, managing and maintaining instrument inventory, and the supervision and mentorship of student leadership in HSB. The qualified person will also be responsible for recruitment and retention of students in HSB and maintain the positive reputation of HSB at SCSU.
