Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson MedTech, is recruiting for a Sr. Manager, Head of Sustain – MONARCH Program Execution within the Robotics & Digital Solutions organization. This position will be based in Santa Clara, CA.

This role serves as a key partner to the cross‑functional MONARCH Leadership Team, ensuring alignment, accountability, and focus needed for the effective execution of critical sustain programs across the MONARCH portfolio. The role reports to the Sr. Director Program Execution, MONARCH.
 

The Sr. Manager, Head of Sustain – MONARCH Program Execution will manage a team of program and project managers responsible for planning and driving sustain initiatives across the MONARCH organization in alignment with committed scope, timeline, quality, and budget. This role requires strong collaboration and partnership with R&D, Systems Engineering, Software, Global Strategic Marketing (GSM), Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, Manufacturing, and Service.
 

Major duties & responsibilities:

  • Own end‑to‑end execution of all MONARCH sustain programs across the capital system, instruments, and accessories, including lifecycle management, hardware and software updates, field issue remediation, obsolescence management, and cost optimization.
  • Lead sustain program planning and execution, ensuring delivery to committed scope, schedule, quality, and budget through proactive tracking, acceleration, risk identification, and mitigation.
  • Provide governance and executive decision support, including development and execution of management reviews, scenario planning, trade‑off analysis, and clear recommendations to enable timely leadership decisions.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing team of program and project managers, establishing clear priorities, accountability, and disciplined execution across sustain initiatives.
  • Provide technical and systems‑level leadership for sustain efforts, ensuring high‑quality problem definition, root cause analysis, and technically sound corrective and preventive actions across electro‑mechanical systems, electronics, embedded software, system/application software, instruments, and accessories.
  • Support post‑market quality processes, partnering with Quality and Regulatory Affairs to address complaints, field issues, and CAPA activities, ensuring timely execution of corrective actions and sustained reduction of field risk.
  • Partner cross- functionally to drive effective sustainment and resolution of complex hardware‑software and system‑instrument integration issues impacting field performance.
  • Drive operational excellence and cross‑functional alignment, defining and managing sustain execution metrics and collaborating with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, Quality, Regulatory, and enterprise partners to ensure compliant, durable, and scalable sustain solutions.
     

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of proven industry experience required.
  • Bachelor’s/undergraduate degree in Engineering or related technical field required.
  • 4+ years of direct or indirect program/project management experience required.
  • 4+ years of people management experience (inclusive of direct/indirect reports) required.
  • Proven success shaping and influencing to drive strategic execution and operational excellence required.
  • Proven success managing ambiguity and effective management of key issues and risks required.
  • Experience with using and/or administering project management software required.
  • Experience in both agile SW and HW product development required.
  • Strong technical expertise and business insight within the areas of Strategy, R&D, Supply Chain and Program Management highly preferred.
  • PMP Certification highly desirable.
  • An advanced Degree or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in highly regulated industry required. Medical device experience with Class II, III in capital equipment development preferred.
  • Prior experience leading project/program teams preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$157,000.00 - $271,400.00

This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.



Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year
