About this role:
The Wholesale Lending Operations Control organization serves as the first line of defense in risk management, holding direct accountability for identifying, assessing, and effectively managing risks and controls across its supported business groups. This team plays a critical role in ensuring that internal controls, processes, and procedures are not only adequate but also operating effectively to safeguard the organization.
Wholesale Lending Operations Control is responsible for providing executive management with clear visibility into risk exposures, emerging trends, and control effectiveness. The team also partners closely with business leaders and stakeholders to embed risk and control awareness into strategic initiatives and operational execution. Through proactive engagement, the group supports enterprise-wide projects by identifying potential risks and recommending practical, sustainable control solutions.
The Wholesale Lending Operations Process‑Risk‑Control Suite Business Control Manager (BCM) will serve as a strategic partner to the Wholesale Lending Operations Control Executive and the Deputy Leads for CIB Lending Ops and CB Lending Ops Control. This BCM leader will drive horizontal initiatives, ensure timely resolution of cross‑functional risk and control issues, and maintain a consistent and accurate view of the Wholesale Lending Operations risk profile, rating, and trends.
The BCM will work across all Wholesale Lending Operations functions and the full end‑to‑end lending lifecycle to simplify, rationalize, and optimize risks and controls, while enabling central governance, transparency, and organizational alignment. This role will also centrally aggregate and advance control and process‑improvement initiatives that deliver meaningful strategic and operational benefits.
In this role, you will:
Process, Risk & Control Suite Leadership
Lead the Wholesale Lending Operations RSCA Efficiency & Rationalization Strategy.
Designing and managing the organization‑wide structure and tracking of control rationalization initiatives.
Developing migration targets and processes for Control Owner work transitioning to India and the Philippines, including a full Control Owner operating model, leadership routines, and governance reporting.
Define and lead the Wholesale Lending Operations Control Suite Strategy, establishing standards and governance frameworks (e.g., maker‑checker, call‑backs, control validation principles).
Partner across the BCM community to implement strategies supporting organizational performance measures (e.g., ORKRI).
Drive proactive risk management through BEICF‑aligned practices and initiatives.
Operate in a matrixed model to partner across BCMs supporting Run‑the‑Bank coverage, including Transformation, Change Management, Reconciliations, QA, Automation, and Operational Excellence.
Business & Control Transformation
Lead capacity and utilization optimization efforts, ensuring global demand drivers are aligned with resource allocation and the organization operates at full capacity with the appropriate resource mix.
Serve as the BCM control lead for all change management and automation activities, ensuring connectivity between operational changes and risk/control impacts.
Partner with Wholesale Lending Operations to shape business and control strategies across functions.
Collaborate with Business Management and Operational Excellence to execute strategies tied to manage‑the‑line (MTL) activities.
Business Assurance, Connectivity & Escalation Management
Partner with Wholesale WOSS Control to define and implement the QA/QC/SAA strategy, including governance‑level performance reporting and integration with Control Suite reviews.
Working with teams supporting the Wholesale Control Steer‑Co, track demand drivers, core delivery commitments, and cross‑functional escalations.
Own governance routines and reporting structures for Wholesale Lending Operations Control, including connectivity to WO LOB Governance Council, CB/CIBLO governance bodies, and other relevant sub‑councils.
Provide visibility into front‑office and operations HRR drivers and remediation progress across Wholesale Lending Operations Control.
Support the Control Executive in executing communication strategies, organizational messaging, and cross‑team engagement.
Define and implement communication channels into front to back governance routines with the upstream front office control teams.
Lead complex, cross‑functional risk initiatives, advise senior leaders, and mentor project and virtual teams.
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of Risk Management or Financial Services Industry experience, or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of Wholesale Lending Operations across Commercial Banking and Corporate and Investment Banking.
Knowledge and understanding of internal controls and internal control policy
Ability to synthesize data and/or observations from a variety of, often disparate and unconnected, sources, deliver succinct summaries (both verbal and written), and enact responses quickly
Proven capability to translate risks, control data and issues into concise, impactful stories for senior leaders
Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills to effectively influence all organizational and leadership levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are a must
Highly organized and proactive with demonstrated ability to assess, exercise independent judgment, apply prudent risk management principles, prioritize work to meet deadlines, and proactively escalate when necessary
Job Expectations:
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
