About Engine
At Engine, we’re transforming business travel into something personalized, rewarding, and simple. For too long, managing travel and spend has been overwhelming and fragmented — we’re here to change that. We believe the future of travel should be seamless and powered by technology that delights customers at every step. That’s why we’re building a platform that brings together corporate travel, a powerful charge card, and modern spend management in one place.
To make this vision real, we’re looking for exceptional, mission-driven people to help redefine how businesses manage and experience travel.
More than 20,000 companies already rely on Engine to support over 1 million travelers and billions in annual bookings each year. Cash flow positive with rapid growth, we pair exclusive Engine-only rates, industry-leading rewards, and intelligent automation to help businesses save money while delivering world-class personalization and convenience.
Backed by Telescope Partners, Blackstone, and Permira, Engine has been recognized as one of the fastest-growing travel and fintech platforms in North America, with honors including the Deloitte Fast 500 and Built In’s Best Places to Work.
Your Mission:
As a Staff Analytics Engineer, you are the technical authority for Engine’s data ecosystem. You will lead the transition from a monolithic legacy environment to a sophisticated, multi-project Medallion Architecture. This role is designed for a high-level Individual Contributor (IC) who thrives on solving "unsolvable" spaghetti-code problems and establishing the engineering standards that allow our entire data org to move faster, with higher trust.
High-Impact Responsibilities
- Architectural Overhaul: Lead the design and execution of a massive migration from 1,200+ legacy dbt models into a modular, three-project Medallion structure (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
- Systems Governance: Define the "Engine Standard" for data contracts, naming conventions, and testing frameworks. You aren't just following a process; you are building the process others will follow.
- Performance & Scalability: Partner with the Principal Engineer to optimize our Snowflake footprint. You will identify systemic inefficiencies in our DAGs and warehouse usage to drive down costs while increasing query speed.
- Technical Mentorship: Act as a force multiplier for the team. You will lead high-level design reviews, provide "Staff-level" feedback on PRs, and elevate the technical bar for our Senior and Mid-level engineers.
- Strategic Partnership: Bridge the gap between Engineering and Business. You’ll ensure our infrastructure supports long-term growth (3–5 years out) without compromising the day-to-day execution speed of our analysts.
What You’ll Bring to Engine
- Expert-Level dbt Mastery: You don't just "use" dbt; you understand dbt Mesh, cross-project dependencies, and how to refactor massive projects without breaking downstream BI tools like Looker.
- Legacy Refactoring Experience: 8+ years of industry experience with a proven track record of migrating large-scale, "messy" data environments into clean, governed architectures.
