1Chevron Malaysia Limited (CML) is accepting online applications for the position of Chief Corporate Counsel located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia through July 7, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. (Malaysia Time).
This position is in the Downstream and Chemicals (DS&C) Law Group in Kuala Lumpur. The Chief Corporate Counsel supports the DS&C businesses in Malaysia, which operates and manages a network of Caltex retail outlets and fuel terminals and also markets and distributes lubricants. The attorney provides a complete array of legal services, including commercial transactional support, litigation, and advising business leaders and other company personnel. The position reports to the Lead Counsel, International Fuels Sales, located in Singapore.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Supervising one non-attorney. This includes providing work direction, giving advice, and reviewing work product as necessary. It also includes hiring, performance management, compensation, and career development of personnel
Ensuring that legal expenses are maintained within budget
Working closely with Law management, including reporting on work activities and deployment of Law initiatives
Independently works on supporting commercial matters. Typical tasks include providing timely, fit-for-purpose oral and written advice to business clients and law management on projects, transactions, and disputes; drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts
Manages all aspects of legal proceedings including litigation, arbitration and mediation in which the company is involved. This includes, reviewing and objectively assessing the facts giving rise to a claim or defense, advising management, instructing external counsel, interacting with external counsel in the drafting and finalizing of court papers, interviewing witnesses, taking statements, and overseeing the conduct of hearings and trials
Sitting on CML’s business leadership team, contributing as a strategic legal adviser and legal expert and legal point person for CML’s Senior Manager
Working collaboratively with DS&C businesses to understand their strategies and priorities in order to provide excellent legal support
Providing proactive and comprehensive general corporate and legal advice in accordance with Chevron’s policies and procedures, applicable laws, and the Chevron Way, including those in areas of antitrust, anti-corruption, conflict of interest, corporate governance, health, environmental, safety, information protection, and international trade
Training clients on legal topics, including compliance and contracting
Effectively partnering with and managing external counsel (including managing selection and establishing and managing external counsel budget and costs)
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) and qualified to practice law in Malaysia
Minimum of 7 years’ experience
Strong communication skills (written and verbal), both in English and Bahasa Malaysia
Litigation management experience
Relocation Options:
Relocation will not be considered within Chevron parameters.
International Considerations:
Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
