SENIOR CONSULTANT – INVESTMENT PERFORMANCE & ATTRIBUTION

Senior Consultant - Investment Performance & GIPS is an individual contributor role responsible for the governance, oversight, and delivery of GIPS-compliant performance reporting, composite management across a diverse range of investment strategies and vehicles.

 

This role requires deep expertise in Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®), investment performance measurement and performance presentation requirements to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and transparency of client and prospective client reporting. The individual will serve as a SME for GIPS-related activities, leading the day-to-day execution of composite management, performance validation, and final GIPS reporting processes.

 

In addition, the role will champion strategic initiatives focused on automation, digital transformation, and process optimization to improve operational efficiency, reduce manual intervention, enhance transparency, and support the continued evolution of NTAM's global Performance & GIPS operating model.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for NTAM GIPS® Team
  • Provide guidance on GIPS compliance, composite management, performance methodologies, benchmark governance, and industry best practices.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management, Product, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Operations teams to enhance performance frameworks, controls, and operating models.
  • Support GIPS verification reviews, audits, client due diligence requests, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Lead governance activities related to composite management, including composite construction, maintenance, inclusion/exclusion criteria, benchmark assignments, and performance presentation requirements.
  • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and control enhancements to improve efficiency, scalability, and data quality.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of performance-related exceptions and GIPS reporting issues.
  • Mentor and develop analysts, promoting technical excellence in GIPS standards and establish a strong operating model.
  • Represent the function in global governance forums and strategic initiatives, providing SME expertise to support business objectives and client service excellence.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Deep expertise in CFA Institute Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®), including interpretation, implementation, compliance, verification support, and industry best practices across multiple asset classes.
  • Strong understanding of the asset management industry, performance measurement methodologies, composite management specifications.
  • Proven experience managing client servicing activities, with exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on experience with leading composite management and performance reporting platforms, including StatPro, Sylvan, Eagle, and other industry-standard solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of investment and performance measurement systems such as Aladdin, Eagle, Bloomberg, FactSet, MSCI Index Monitor, NT PACE, Custom Hierarchy, RADAR, Data Direct, and Integrated Reporting.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented professional with a strong execution focus, capable of working independently while thriving in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking capabilities, with the ability to effectively communicate complex performance, risk, and GIPS-related concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Solid understanding of data governance and operational workflows, including how client data is sourced, processed, and reported through Northern Trust systems and third-party vendor platforms.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions while managing client expectations and business priorities.
  • Ability to build and maintain trusted client relationships by proactively identifying needs, anticipating issues, asking insightful questions, and delivering value-added solutions.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills, effectively partnering with internal teams, external clients, consultants, verifiers, and other business partners to ensure successful outcomes and regulatory compliance.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics or a related discipline strongly preferred; CFA and/or CIPM designation highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 9 years of hands-on experience in Investment Performance and/or GIPS reporting.  
  • Deep expertise in performance measurement and GIPS end to end lifecycle, including data ingestion to final reporting to end clients.
  • Strong understanding of the asset management industry, with a proven track record in performance and GIPS specific roles at a mid-to-large investment management firm.
  • Strong proficiency with investment performance systems, reporting platforms, and analytical tools and databases used in institutional asset management environments.
  • Prior project management experience - particularly in driving process improvements, system enhancements, or cross-functional initiatives - preferred.
