Job Summary

The Community Work-Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at non-profit organizations that serve the public interest. 

Goals of this program include:

  • Develop interest in public service through employment with TAMIU and be assigned to local non-profit, government, or community-based organizations.

  • Apply skills and theories gained through coursework to solve problems and explore issues outside the classroom. 

  • Enhance career competencies, such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and leadership. 

  • Articulate how experiences will shape personal, academic, and professional pursuits.

Position Overview

Lake Casa Blanca International State Park is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Program Intern to assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of programs aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and promoting conservation awareness. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in outdoor recreation, environmental education, and park management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, organizing, and conducting educational and recreational programs such as guided nature hikes, wildlife observation, and interpretive programs for park visitors, including school groups.

  • Support the park’s community outreach initiatives, promoting environmental conservation and awareness.

  • Collaborate with park rangers and staff on program development, ensuring alignment with park goals and visitor engagement.

  • Create and maintain program materials such as flyers, social media content, and educational resources.

  • Help with the logistics of special events, including setup, breakdown, and assisting participants.

  • Interact with visitors to provide information about park amenities, rules, and programs.

  • Contribute to volunteer coordination efforts, assisting with scheduling and supervising volunteers during events and programs.

  • Participate in general park duties as needed, such as trail maintenance and visitor services, to gain a broad understanding of park operations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates, 3 credit hours for graduates).  

  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.  

  • Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.  

  • Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.  

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen with an alien registration number.  

  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.

  • Promptly complete all required training.

  • Input hours worked daily and submit time sheet biweekly.  

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Subject to funding and/or need.

Rate of Pay: $10.00/hour for up to 15 hours per week
